I am considering starting a steam group for SFM collaborators, as a place for film makers and content creators to get together to produce films in an open, collaborative environment, but before I pull the trigger and actually make it public, I want to be convinced that people will get value out of it. Please post your opinions below.
It occurs to me that non-community beta members might not be able to properly see the page, so I'll copy the"about" text here.
What this is all about.
Hello, My name is Zachariah Scott.
I've been creating machinima and working in mods and games for about 10 years now, and over the course of my misadventures I've learned the great value of working within a team of motivated and enthusiastic artists, as well as the value of specializations. Several years ago I worked in a machinima team called Lit Fuse Films. In that team we had an incredibly effective and motivated group of specialists, composers, directors, actors, 2d and vfx artists. Each a specialist in their own field. Working like this we were able to become one of the most well known machinima groups on the internet, but more than that, we were all able to make art, and support eachother, and compliment eachothers talents. I want to get back to that kind of environment, but with one key difference.
I dont' want to do it as some single film group, but as an open community that allows everyone the chance to make those connections and find those talented individuals to work with. A place that can eventually run itself sufficiently without my input.
The driving motivation behind making this group, is to create an environment where motivated filmmakers can get together and assemble teams to make movies. The goal is to provide a community of like minded volunteers, who, if they choose to do so, can then form into teams or just provide general assistance and support to people who are creating films.
At the moment I'm still figuring out how all of this is supposed to work. The eventual goal is to make this group public and self sufficient, but until I can be happy that it will actually provide value to it's members, I'm keeping things invitation only. If you would like an invitation, contact me on steam.
