As far as video games go, Jesper Kyd is a great artist, his work on Hitman, Freedom Fighters, and Assassin's Creed is pretty much iconic. Nick Arundel made quite possibly one of the best Batman soundtracks of all time with Arkham City. I really hope Health does more videogame work, because Max Payne 3's score was awesome.

Movies: You cant go wrong with John Williams, Basil Poledouris, and Jerry Goldsmith. They have a pretty solid collection of work. If you want something a little more bizarre then Danny Elfman. A lot of people dislike him, but Hans Zimmer is one of my favorite artists.

You are really right about the Proffessor Layton soundtrack.

Its very stylized and unique.

Jackie Chan's films had some interesting soundtracks that don't often get noticed because it gets overshadowed by the stunts
