My friend is an avant-garde musician who plays under the name Dream Believer. He just released his first album and I did all the production. I wanted to know what you guys thought of his music and my production work. http://dreambeliever.bandcamp.com/album/my-first-guitar

Thats the sound he was going for. He isnt trying to be subtle. And yes its intentionally off time. Its very much an exparement.

To be honest I don't really like it but I have a feeling that my not liking it will only satisfy him

Well most exparements are hit and miss, and this is more of a miss for me. When I saw the cover art I thought this was a joke to be honest.

sometimes when i make music i take my shittiest microphone, i play chords out of time with everything and then i make super sloppy drums, add looots of reverb and compress it all on the master.

it's fun but i wouldn't call it experimental, just bad music i do when im bored

Well good for you I guess. This is something we are seriously working on though.

in all honesty I think that it's actually not that great avant-garde

the later tracks are definitely better than the earlier ones but even then, you can tell he's made a lot of mistakes

Thing is, it doesn't sound good when it's off time. You could try polyrhythms, but being intentionally off time isn't a very good idea.

So, you're intentionally messing everything up and you want to show us and you call it a serious project.

This makes little sense to me, have a box.

There are some pretty cool ideas, but when there's no structure to your songs... it just makes them sound like a collection of noises. It's boring and difficult to even listen to.

Keep trying for sure. Make sure you're in time!
