The only reason you'd need intel's i7 is for hyperthreading in which case would not be used unless he plays the very few games that support it.

LGA 2011 is a good socket, but its one generation behind.. how is that so said "future-proof" if future proofing did exist.

You don't need a bigger power supply to OC -.- ... (and 600w's should be fine for most modern day graphic's cards + the rest of the system, and if he wanted to go SLI /Crossfire he'd need to upgrade from that 700w because it couldnt handle it anyways.)

I agree with you on everything except upgrading from the 600w PSU. You could SLI 670's or 680's on a 650w PSU, same with a 7970 or 7950.
