Because it doesn't work like that. They're meant to stop people complaining about "MY GMAWD IS EETING MY MEGAHURTZ" and shit like that. And if you do have more than 200 addons... you're fucking crazy. GMod is going to run like a snail. Altough, I do agree the Lua files limit of 2048 is somewhat low. It's like we're going back to GMod 9 (I remember running a GMod 9 server and it just didn't start when there were a lot of Lua files).

Set a low default limit and just inform people what changing it will do. Or make it hard to change, like a console command.

Well can't people extract their addons into main gmod category if they go above the 200 limit?
That is, if an addon adds only models/materials.

I'm not sure if the limit is there because shit breaks after having more than 2048 lua files, but as Garry said in another thread he does not give a shit.

Everything you add to GMod is going to slow it down. The change might be so small that it's not perceptible but it still does it. The memory consumption is also higher. The old format is slower of course, because it has more separate files to handle.

I think hard coded limits are stupid and should be avoided as much as possible, because as hardware capacity increases, you're still stuck with software using limits that were acceptable a decade ago. The source engine in it's entire is a perfect example of this.

Does anyone know if there's a way, for the NPC or Weapon or Entitiy tabs for instance, the spawn menu, to put them all on one page, rather than the page-per-cateogry? Im not make sense here.

2048 is very little with wire installed.

Just thought I'd throw my two cents in. The playermodel issue for some reason is caused by something like sv_cheats being off. If you turn it on then type thirdperson into the console you'll see your model, but you won't see yourself in a vehicle if you switch back to firstperson.

Garry, the dark side of me who wants games to be uber realistic is displeased with this. But on second thought...I do like pretending to be a ghost driving a vehicle...

Just started up Gmod for the first time in years and fuck, it's changed since I last played it. As long as fin, weight, breakable props and wire still work I'm not fussed, glad to see the dupe cloud system thing too.

I agree with forum shark, as well as the re-addition of the tool search, I don't get why it was removed in the first place.

Yep, same for me. It doesn't help that I can't open my console on the main menu to, you know, see what the error is that's kicking me out of the game before it finishes loading.

There is a new update! http://garrysmod.com/post/44073908112/gmod-update-158

Regarding this: "The Legacy Addon System previously required an addon.txt file in the addon folder. This is no longer the case."

What about the 'info.txt' file? Is it still needed?

So with no addon.txt required anymore, does that mean that if an addon.txt is present, the addon is ignored? Currently my server is completely addonless because I don't have access to the startup parameters (which I imagine is the same with a lot of server owners) and legacy addons aren't loading at all.

GMA files are Garry’s Mod Addon files. You can now copy a GMA into the garrysmod folder (or garrysmod/addons/gma/) and have them mount just like they’d been downloaded from Workshop. This should be useful for people who don’t want to use workshop for some reason, and people who want to test their addons offline before uploading them to workshop.
    Awesome!

MrWhite I think addons are broken on linux servers.

I can confirm that this is not true. Addons are broken regardless of whether or not addon.txt is present. Garry, you dun goof'd.

sit and wait generation. How about copying all your addons to gmod root and be done with it until it gets fixed?

I'd much rather not mess with anything until Garry says something about it and/or has an official fix instead of risking screwing up the whole install. Wiping everything and re-FTPing all the server files across is far too painful on my slow connection.

You dont have to post here if all you are going to do is call out the dev for things. I dont think you understand how complicated making a game can be. You cant always have it perfect every time.

This doesn't seem to work for me.
Tried with and without an authkey, Tried in garrysmod/addons and garrysmod/addons/gma with one and multiple .gma's

Anyone else get this/not get this to work? Any insight would be helpful thanks
