I know how to get them but thanks to Windows Creators Update, it added more file protection on the base game and all it's dlcs. :( I could try looking for the in game odst drop pod tho!
From how it seemed the spearbreaker DLC uses two versions of the drop pod: one for the in-game cutscenes and another for the game. I dunno :/

on a seperate note I recreated Rosenda-A344 the best I can using the halo:reach assets

It appeared in the fan-made ArmA III mod "Operation Trebuchet". It was every bit as awesome as it looked.

I do hope this isn't a derailment of the thread, but they are Halo models so I'd wager this is relevant:

I know that I am better know for ANIMATION style custom models, but through events beyond my control, I'm now spearheading a revival project to keep the game Halo: Ground Command alive after the company producing it went bankrupt in August. Thus far I've modeled from scratch 3D printable designs of Noble Team, H2A Combat Elites, Army Troopers, Mongoose, Banshee, and my most recent creation, a 4 1/2" long Falcon Gunship (left one was a prototype, right is finished design), all in 1:100th scale.

My plan is to design numerous more models and allow this game to thrive. The only models officially released for it were based on Halo: Reach... But my hope is to eventually expand much further into the other games in the series. Now, I'm looking to get my hands on Halo Wars 2 assets. If nothing else simply the unrigged, untextured models would be all I'd need for reference material to make some awesome stuff.

If you have access to the models and would like to help rip them for me or teach ME how to rip them, please shoot me a PM. Because I'd love to custom model and see the Forerunner, Flood, and Banished made IRL for this game.

    1) Absolutely awesome to see people like yourself keeping Ground Command alive. Its a shame the company that made them went under.

    2) Those models look awesome, would you be selling kits of these in the future?

    3) Halo Wars 2 falls under the Windows Store protection, meaning you have to use UMP Dumper to access any of the current files, there was a 3dsmax script released for the Beta files, and if you have the old blitz beta files you can access them using the script. I've been able to get the blitz beta files into MAX, but not the current game (all new dlc stuff, campaign, flood) since Windows Creators Update made the file protection stronger.

    4) Keep up the good work! Any ideas for getting some Halo Wars 1 models in like the Cobra, Hawk or Gremlin? There's a max script that allows you to view all the models, since the game is on steam, all the textures are viewable too.

    1) Agreed. Spartan Games just spread themselves far too thin, at least the rights and assets to their original games were bought up by another company, but their Halo license is done. :(
    2) Thats the idea. Some of the infantry characters are on Shapeways (Jorge and Emile are getting uploaded tomorrow), but I'm looking into the possibility of buying the $3,500 3D printer used to make these prototypes you see here. That way I can print them myself for WAY less than a big company (Falcon would cost me $120 O_O ). I'm hoping to see the fruits of that plan later this year.
    3) Understood. I actually don't own Max so I couldn't use the script if I did have the beta.
    4) I thought of maybe doing a Rhino and Covenant Vampire, but that aside none of the Halo Wars 1 models pique my interest.

I made it from the concept art for 3D practice a while back. Not sure if it's the same one seen in the Rosenda concept art though, that one has a bigger mag and a carrying handle and stuff.

Tried texturing it; the UV map ended up a mess and I don't know how suitable it is for a game in terms of polycount (I didn't do high>low poly). I modeled it with the guns from Reach as a reference at least, but idk if that means much.

I'd certainly like to try finishing it eventually though.

Agreed. I have no clue on how to open them. Apparently they're just renamed .zips / .rars but changing the file name to that doesn't work. Same with trying to open them regularly.

The files here are compressed, as they are in the released version, and I don't have the expertise to decompress them. I doubt there's any difference between the definitive edition and alpha models anyway.

There are some differences, some noticeable, some not so noticeable. The stuff I would be interested in would be the base buildings as well as units.

This is actual in-game images of the Halo Wars ALPHA. With a JTAG Xbox it is possible to play it, I would love to implement their models into Halo Wars Steam, first step would be getting them in the right UGX format (big edian -> small edian) or getting them in MAX>

I'm interested in pulling the files from HW2, trying rn. I've been able to pull all files from HW:DE Steam

Pretty sure you can still acquire Max through Autodesk's Student Software program, which lets you DL the entirety of their software with a student's liscence, provided you don't use it to make a profit.

Also, did the models from the Definitive Edition gain better texture resolutions or even more detailed models with increased polys?

Curious, anyone managed to get the ODST drop pods from the Operation Spearbreaker DLC for Halo wars 2? they use a different drop pod than the one from the previous missions. The previous missions use the ones that resemble the Forward Unto Dawn's drop pods from Halo 4, while Spearbreaker uses the H2A style ODST drop pods

    The one from spearbreaker ^

heres the one used in game

I don't wish to be rude, and TanneT did answer this already, but five minutes of Googling would have answered this question. Download QuickBMS, use that to open the BMS file, and from there you'll be prompted to which PKG file you wish to unpack. After that it'll dump the files out for you and you can use the MaxScript to play with the models.

In order to load the textures for the HW2 stuff in 3ds max you have to do this.

    change the .ddx to .dds
open the .dds in visual studio
    save as PNG

open in paint.net (what i use)
    save as TGA
    load as a material.

Not sure, honestly the way they sort this stuff is super confusing when compared to DE, which is sorted and labeled. I'm still trying to find specific things.

    What about the whole archive?
Rosa and TanneT were right about the whole thing being easy to operate, though. Can't seem to find some of the vehicles like the hornet, vulture or nightingale during extraction, let alone most of the buildings from the base game. Were those found in a previous archive? Also, is the Definitive Edition archive available as well?

    EDIT:

I found the older archive with all of the building and files I was looking for on my ailing hard drive... need to replace it soon so I don't lose all of that data. Can't seem to remember where I picked it up, though. Granted, the texture files that were missing in that dump months back are here in this current archive, so that works well for me.
