!!!Read This Before Posting "IT DOESN'T WORK"!!!
If it doesn't work and you get errors pointing to "autorun/server/duplicator.lua"
You have an outdated version of wire installed, delete it and get the latest version.
Or your GarrysMod/lua folder has been messed with by another addon doing things wrong, delete your GarrysMod/lua folder.
Or you're using a pirated version of GMod10.


DO NOT redistribute this on Garrysmod.org!
People keep doing it with old versions and they're fucking shit up.



Report bugs in this thread or here and include all console errors and the saved file that had the problem.

Latest Version:
You can always get the latest version from the Wire SVN.
-- You can download this from the WireSVN build dump HERE! and you must :cow: DELETE OLD VERSION FIRST :cow:
Installation:
DELETE OLD VERSION FIRST, Put it in to your garrysmod\addons folder. Restart Gmod.
DELETE OLD VERSION FIRST, failure to do so will result in bad things and being laughed at later when you admit your inability to read and fallow 4 word instructions.


New Features List:
  • Much faster (twice as fast as the stock duplicator at most things)
  • Ability to copy many things (hold shift to add to clipboard)
  • Tested to save over the max-safe-number-of-entities-you-can-have-before-gmod-crashes

  • Files with "copy of" in the name won't show up (file.Find limitation?).
  • Filenames are saved in all lowercase (seemed like gmod update 22 caused this. fix unlikely)
  • Shit is all fucked up if you have an old version of wire installed.

Q: Where are saves saved?
A: \garrysmod\data\adv_duplicator

Q: Nothing happens when I hit save
A: Something crap addon you installed fucked up gmod and now you need to remove all your addons or even reinstall gmod.

Q: "Doesn't work, how I fix?"
A: [No error, no info, ignored]

Q: SVN dump? But I don't want to install wire too :(
A: Just extract AdvDupe folder from the RAR, dork.

Will the SVN version of wire keep getting the latest advanced duplicator? (in separate addon yup)

I cannot live without your tool, though yesterday i had a bug where i spawned a simple wire bot and it fell apart and was un-undoable.

But then i updated again and it got fixed

One question, i tried on the Gmod Central build server to add some missiles to my plane (When they spawn from the spawning sent, they should automatically fly using the thruster paired to the constant value of 200.) But they spawn and the thruster says it's thrusting, but it isn't. Any ideas?

That's the way Garry made the thrusters work, not to be active on duplication. I've modified the wired thrusters in wire mod to pasted in the same state they were when copied.



Basic instructions:

To save:
Make something.
Right click it with the advanced duplicator (just like the regular one)
In it's control panel, hit save
Put a file name in the dialog box and hit save

To load:
Select the file in the list box in the control panel and hit open
You should have a ghost on the thing you saved
Left click to place a copy (also just like the standard duplicator)

No and No. The files are sent in pieces (I think), which stops the overflow error.
Clients can download the files if they want, or just spawn it.

When you want to load a local file on the server, you have to upload it to the server first. When the upload is finished, it will tell you. Same thing for downloading.

Yes but will I be able to press the "SVN Update" button for the next couple of months or whatever to get the latest version of Advanced Duplicator? I really love SVN, it's very easy to update. I think every single huge project should use this.

This just crashed my dedicated server.

I was building a simple floating platform using wire mod which follows around NPCs to test the Advanced Copy Gun. I saved it to a file called "hunter.txt" and tried to spawn a 2nd one.

The wire_thrusters fell off.

I was just about to post the error in the console and the thrusters.txt when I noticed the "download to local" button which I pressed out of curiosity.

BAM - server dead, server console gone.

If you can get me those files, that would really help.



There is no way my tool could have broken the built in duplicator (unless your using a very old version on a previous version of gmod). It uses the duplicator module as-is thanks to some useful changes by Garry.
If it's not working you make have installed it wrong or not did not restart gmod afterwards or don't have the gmod update.
If it's not doing anything then there should be an error in the console and you'll need to post that.

For some reason when I try to rename an already saved file it doesn't change after you click on "OK". When you click it, the box disappears and the file isn't renamed. Is this a bug or is it just me?

This is a known bug. I haven't figure out why it is yet because the ConCommand can be put in the console and it works just fine.

Get me the file of something that did that. I've not had any problems with things with over 800 ents and 2000 constraints (only with the spawn error warning of possible overflow). Try using the debug saving option.

Yeah Ill try to get those uploaded. More specifically, I am having problems with saving nocollides and Advanced ballsockets. Sometimes random welds will disappear too, not sure what that's about. Motors work occasionally. Generally it just seems like too many constraints confuses it.

Doesn't seem to like certain special characters like apostrophes('). Hyphens(-) on the other hand work fine. If you're having trouble loading, try removing any special characters from the file name and uploading again. It might be a good idea to come up with a list of non-alphanumeric characters that can be used.

Yes, it works fine with Life Support. The only thing that doesn't work is the linking ropes, it only copies the rope. Thankfully you can just remove the rope with the linking tool and just relink them, so no worries about spammed ropes.

It does save life supports but not the links that the link tool makes. You can still see the connections but they aren't technically there. You need to re-link everything over again. And so you don't get double the visible links make the link width 0(type in box to get it to 0).

Heh, beat me to it, instead of making the rope width 0 just right click the prop and remove the old rope with the linker.

Ok, here is the error I got in the server console when loading my contraption:

LS: includes/modules/duplicator.lua:328: attempt to index field 'Entity' (a nil value)

It spawns but the wire_thrusters fall off as I said.

When I press "Download to local" the server crashes and the last message in my client console is "getting file data, piece: 114 of 116" and then "Server connection timed out". I can't tell the last server message because it crashed :D

The save file "hunter.txt" is located in a subfolder called "Wire Mod Contraptions".

Just tried, and I didn't see any difference in my loaded contraption from the first one. nocollides seem to be a huge problem as NONE of those were saved. It seems like something's going wrong in the save process rather than loading, but what do I know. I'll send you the debug files as soon as I get a chance. When this thing works though, it works well, so hopefully you can come up with a fix!

No, I used the Gmod 9 version all the time and I've seen the new one, I can assure you it is much more awesome.

However, for now, this thing is the best out there. The copy gun was totally ridiculous and the only problems I've had with this is a crash when uploading and missing ballsockets on one of my saves. Other than those minor issues, it works perfectly and the creator certainly deserves an e-cookie.

Damnit, it the Keepupright constraint. This is going to be a little hacky to workaround or poke Garry with a stick to fix it, he's stores it differently that the others.

The simple fix would be Garry changing Keepupright to use "Ent1" and "Bone1" instead of "Ent" and "Bone".

My hack fix overrides constraint.GetTable and duplicator.CreateConstraintFromTable, which Garry will kill me for.

When i try to load the constraption already saved (the one that come with this), it only create 1 prop. Nothing else. Even though i see the whole transparent preview of it. It just spawn 1 prop.
I can't seems to be able to select more than 1 prop at a time to copy Duplicate it.
And when i press reload, it create an invisible whatever thingy.

I can load contraptions, but when trying to spawn them I get this:
LS: autorun/server/AdvDupe.lua:241: attempt to call global 'LocalToWorld' (a nil value)

Try this: spawn two things, weld them together, copy and paste with both duplicators, then try saving/loading it with the adv. duplicator and tell me what happens. Also look in the console and check for errors.

Because i like using ECS to make forts/cars/ships/etc.. and Welding all those props together would just take forever.

Yeah this is a beta alright. I tried copying my 6x6 Armadillo http://forums.facepunchstudios.com/s....php?p=4977484 and if I tried to use it as just a duplicator it dupped just the props with NO constraints at all. No welds ropes or axis were copied. So all I had was a pile of props. Then I saved and tried loading the save and I got about 1/3 the prop and still no constraints copied. Then I did the larger debug save and got the same result. Anything you want me to send you? The debug save?

Looks like you don't have wire installed, paster requires that. In the next version I will make a non-wire paster. And all those errors are Garry's duplicator not being able to find the model, which you don't have. You tried to load my demo file, it has wired stuff in it.

Garry's duplicator will bomb if you don't have the model it's looking for.

Advanced duplicator works like the regular duplicator, it tells that entities are connected via constraints (ie. welds). I cannot change that behavior.

If you need to weld a ton-o-shit together, get the Smart Welder STool.

I highly recommend that you periodically duplicate and test save your contraptions to make sure they will properly reduplicate. I've been doing it with contraptions that I had trouble saving at first and my success rate for having a working save is much higher. Just as you should periodically save images and papers you're working on in case of a crash, you should periodically duplicate, save, and load things you work on with this.

If it's not working with the stock duplicator or adv. duplicator (straint dupe, no saving), then it's a problem with garry's duplicator. Look in the console for errors, there should be some. Send me both saves and the save game and I try to figure it out. And what's in that thing?

OK. The console came up with only 1 error when I tried to load or duplicate. It said it was the Sound Emitter. I removed that and it copied 95% perfect. Now the only problem is the winch[s] to raise the howitzer will not work and the Malawar cannons do not fire and I got a console error when activating a magnet in the base of the rotating turret, oh and the RT camera isn't active.

Tab2020 private message me your email and I will send you the 3 saves (1 working the other 2 with the sound emitter that don't load correctly) and the game save with the working armadillo and the full console from a load of the working dup in a fresh load of flatgrass.

Oh, Is this baby clientside? If it is we can all load our contraptions into multiplayer games without a need the server to have it.
