His lighting is nice.
His lighting is nice.
Dave Brown's maps aren't even HL2RP. The only thing that comes from HL2 is the Citadel.
Ridiculous overuse of blue lighting isn't a good thing.
Can't we get a bit more eye candy?
Just to update sceptics out there. I will be picking this map back up again during my break from University. I am currently very involved in my final projects which are due shortly. I understand this map has been in production for many years but I map as a hobby not a job so will not be pressured in to giving out quickly put together BETA's. It will be released, I have no intentions to let this die so please be patient.
Because I get some weird thrill from making people jizz themselves over a map?
duke nukem forever this post xD
Made a quick, four minute video walking around the Trainstation and CPAP. I know of lighting issues, models not being lit properly and decals overlapping multiple surfaces.
Tell me what you think and should I make one of the Prison?
Yes definitely please, and the razor train.
It's brilliant. I like the level of interactivity in there, like toggled force fields.
I really hope you node this.
Oh please, AI node this, it will be worth the weight
Razor train, was already posted a while ago.
In RP_City8_2, there's a ramp that leads straight into nothing.
The only good thing about the maps are the custom textures, which are so, so pretty.
snip
I don't think so...
The best would be releasing it with Clockwork.
This still being worked upon?
Here's a quick percentage complete of the map, roughly. I will try and get a more thorough one made up.
I'm not sure if I will be able to put the industrial estate/sector in because I'm hitting the limits and hitting them badly. I want to tie up the loose ends of the map, connect everything up and give it a test to see if it will actually work after being compiled. I'm sceptical. So the City may be quite small in comparison to my plans of a lot of citizen engagement, however, the buildings which are included are well detailed and fairly well thought out, there are several stores and two apartment blocks. An abandoned hospital, several small areas which lead into the sewer(which also unfourtunately may need to be cut back or restricted to gain back some resources). I could possibly squeeze in a couple more empty stores, but want to tie everything up first and see how it runs. Like I keep saying it will be released, just not sure on the date so do not want to set one.

Sure is coming along though!
Awesome, looking forward to it.
Its for sure getting there![]()
Preserve the Razor train, it's a beautiful feat of engineering.
The Razor Train is fantastic, a real defining point of the map. Don't remove it.
I don't plan on removing the razor train, just to tweak it a bit, maybe add some pods inside to reduce lag when inside. At the moment it lags a jerks around quite a fair bit and jumping shoots you off to one end. I want to try and add a pod/seating system so once you're in the seat, you cannot get out until you reach the other end.
You should make a flat cylinder the height of the indentation for the entrance and have it serve as a cover/physbox.
I came. Is there going to be HDR?
Please oh please, give the apartments windows.
Instead of adding industrial sector, add a light industrial buildings, such as manufacture, distillery, washing shop, package terminal, there is no need to follow a scheme of options in a city, since not every C## fixated population center had different layout, and not always had a residential or an industrial zone or sector within the city confines.
Such as there been plannings for city 37 a pure industrial zone with a really small or no living area with massive resistance areas within the zone, or there's city 24 that was planned as a full complex residential zone with massive imprisonment zone, or rp_derp what was planned for HWT as a full complex for imprisonment area underground.
Just play out your ideas.
Here are some more screenshots, I can't quite remember if I posted any of these before. It's the apartment block 02.
I have also updated the map layout image, and will upload that soon.
Is it me or did the national Paper-ripping Party pass through those apartments?
There is a paper shredder on the loose, the city have called a lockdown.
Civil Shredtection.
I love progress![]()
Funny how my name always ends up getting beefed in random threads :P
Anyway......I honestly always believed this would be a huge hit for HL2 RP servers....and I want to believe it will be released.....
All I can say is, as others have before, PLEASE make the windows to buildings that look out over the streets breakable and large enough to climb out of etc.....I really cant stress how much little things like that can affect the flow of gameplay. What I hate more than anything is being cornered in a room, and feeling like I should be able to escape through a side door or window, only to find theyre somehow inaccessible / unbreakable. And plus it makes it much more awesome for firefights where one group can defend a building and use the apartment windows as sniper spots.
Id suggest just cutting out the lesser important areas and just releasing it - maps dont have to be perfect - people have roleplayed on City45 V2 for years now and thats a total fucking mess.
making a window would need you to cut a brush into 4 and make another brush for the glass, then making it into an entity so when he already is worried about resources i would understand him not making those.
Even just like......4 would change a whole lot.
Considering (from what I remember of the last beta of this map I have) many of the areas will never be used for RP servers and lay dormant.
This map is great I remember looking at like two years ago which makes me sad, I hope you gain the motivation to finish this! Probably the nicest hl2 map I've seen attempted for sure.
It would be odd if you couldn't break the windows
Because HL2 roleplay always involves firefights, right?
It does, and that's what pisses me off.
But there's no other alternative because nobody has ever made the citizen class any fun. It's literally impossible to make it fun if everyone keeps it to a set canon.
Now, I don't like what you've done with Hl2RP. But it's a step forward, it may not be the right way, in my opinion, but it's definitely moving Hl2RP forward. The citizens should come first, they are your players, the people you'll want to keep entertained. But obviously, the problem is, Hl2 is an FPS.
With Hl2 being an FPS, that's where everyone gets their ideas from, whereas, I don't think that's what should happen. I hate it when people have firefights inside cities. It just seems off, really. I'm not against shooting RP, but it just distracts from the main aim. At the start of Half-Life 2, you never see heavily armed rebels inside the city. What you see, is a ragtag group of people forming a network of stations. Lightly armed, maybe one pistol. This is because they know that the Combine are impossibly powerful, if the combine willed it, the resistance would be dead. So, they live their lives in constant fear of raids. Being careful, not actively shooting MPF.
Then Freeman comes along. Freeman teleports into Breens Office, and in less than 30 minutes, the entire railroad is destroyed. Now, I would presume this was for gameplay, rather than realism.
That's what alot of people who do Hl2RP forget, Hl2 is a video-game, designed for entertainment. It was purposely made easier, because nobody would want to play an impossible game. The Combine took over Earth in 7 hours, then loose to an armed resistance?
Though it could be argued, that the Combine were more powerful back then, and we never see the true might of the combine. Now, I LOVE the Combine. They're one of my favourite intergalactic empires. In the citadel, we see strange synths, obviously cut for a gameplay reason.
But that strikes the question, "If Valve cut it because gameplay wasn't fun. Does that mean we can't use it? Because we're not after gameplay as such, we're after fun roleplay. This is not a shooting game, this is a Roleplaying game. It's always been interesting for me, because I'm a huge Hl2Beta faggot. (Though it's actual name is not the Hl2Beta, I call it that because everyone knows what I'm talking about.) Lots of things Valve originally had, would be amazing in a Hl2 Roleplay. The Manhack Arcade, cut for being unfun. Could be reused and made into one extremely fun thing. Through the use of roleplay, ofcourse.
Though, I'm not a coder, surely it would be possible to make player controlled manhacks for this Manhack Arcade? I also enjoyed the idea of factories and such, because it gives the players jobs, and rewards for completing these jobs.
And that's what it comes down to, right? Fun. Aslong as the players are having fun, you've got a successful community. Although, I'm sure I don't need to tell you how to make a successful community, I think the whole firefight thing is just unneeded, and distracting.
