Try singleplayer, multiplayer is known to be buggy, but basically it looks like it can't create Lua files.

This is online, but I haven't check single player.

this is exactly what is happening to me i just haven't tried it in single player. Also I can't even get my tool gun and the lua_temps folder is what i believe to be the problem. This is because i tried to get in it and it says access denied so i am really annoyed because it is my favourite game. Hopefully there will soon be some thing to solve it please tell me if you find anything

I reinstalled Gmod today, but when I deleted everything, (addons, materials, models etc) a folder called "lua_temp" was there. I didn't care about it, and then when I played Gmod after installing it again, I couldn't use tools on multiplayer! And now I can't delete it! Please help T___T

I figured it out!
I realized that the problem had not started until I got the suggestion from steam to "clean up" Garry's Mod by verifying my GCF integrity, then deleting my Garry's Mod folder. My tools all worked when in single player but not at all during multi-player; my menu showed the categories but I was unable to expand them to view my tools.

Fortunately I previously copied my garrysmod folder and found that in the lua folder four files were missing in the "clean" garrysmod folder.
These files are located in your garrysmod/garrysmod/Lua/vgui folder.
These files are: ToolTree.lua, ToolTree_Button.lua, ToolTree_Group.lua, and ToolTree_Tree.lua.

Once I copied those files from the old garrysmod folder (precleaning), I ran Garry's Mod and all my tools were back to their original glory. I joined an online server to test it.

Hopefully you backed up your old folders, but in the case that you haven't maybe i can just email you the files. I'm not sure that this will work, but it's worth a shot. Besides, what's Garry's Mod without the precious tools?

i have the recent version of g mod on steam and all my tools wont show up in multiplayer but do in singleplayer if anyone has a solution to the problem.

i have tryed reinstalling it twice and i have verified integrity of game cache !

and i dont have a back up of those files seem to be a comman problem

Well, people are still haveing the issue so they didn't do anything wrong.

I also have this issue but on my dedicated server, can someone please upload those files?
