A perfectly harmless companion cube. Absolultely nothing to be afraid of at all. It definitely cannot speak. In fact, if it could speak, I'm sure it would be quite friendly. But that doesn't matter because it can't speak. Or move. And it certainly won't stab you, either. That's for sure.

EDIT: The first time I played with this, it scared me shitless. For some reason I really didn't want to disconnect, I just wanted to see what would happen, and it took me ages to realize it was doing something. Seriously fucking scary stuff for the first time.

Of course not. Don't be silly. Inanimate objects can't talk or stalk you relentlessy or stab you to death. That's preposterous.

You should make it so if the player it's tracking is looking in the general direction of it it doesn't do anything. Kinda like a "moving bush" that a cartoon character is in

Also, it's better left for people to wonder what the cube says to you if it does speak.

I have to congratulate you, this is the first thing in gmod which has actually scared me. As in Really scared me. Almost as much as watching the ring. Keep working on it, it needs more stuff. Maybe you turn to face it, and see a face which disappears very quickly. Or see flashes of it in the corner of your eye, then turn around and it's behind you.

That thing actually scared me while i was playing on Dustbowl.
1. I decided to try and keep an eye on it, so i placed a camera and turned away. It didn't move. I placed an RT camera and placed a monitor. I think it moved in front of me.
2. I place a PHX window (a couple actually). It moved through them. Try playing with this thing in Ravenholm :D

	self:SetModel( "models/props/metal_box.mdl" )
	self:SetSkin( 1 )
Find that in the lua file and you could change it to whatever you want.

It depends what model you want... Most are hidden, if not all default models. There is some way to find them, I think it's called gcfscape but I'm not sure it's that.

Well I think the path and name of the models is in the spawnlist in Garrys Mod, so you could look there for a wanted model. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

weld one to the inside of one of those red containers and throw it in the water, then RUN as far as you can as fast as you can, turn around when you hear a noise, and you got a FEAR cutscene. works best with multiple cubes and lots of fire and blood.
EDIT:
make sure you nocollide the cube and the container though.

Needs a function so it randomly places itself on tables.

Imagine, walk into your base and the cube is just sitting there, on your command console.

Also, continuing on with these Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy references, can you make it so that the cube beams down in the middle of the Freespace06 city? In plain view? As nobody will notice.

I've tried welding it to things, nailing it to things, using ropes and even grabbers to hold it down but nothing can keep this guy from doing absolutely nothing at all to you.

It even doesn't escape from being constantly teleported to a far off location and under no circumstances manages to break away and kill you, that's just a silly rumor.

I agree, I've never been more deathly afraid of anything in a game. I don't know whether it's the jagged squareness that gives me nightmares, or the way it's preposterously joyful heart-shaped knob seems to hide a cold, calculating, methodical intelligence or consciousness that continuously stares at me from all its six sides.

This thing made me afraid to turn off my flashlight, and I was on a bright map, no darkness at all. I hardly would look away from it. Now I keep looking over my chair at my plush on my bed. It's kinda scary having a Companion Cube plush, after having just spawned this a bit ago.

sounds to remove: Oh dear. Anything by gregori. Fiddlesticks and rise and shine

Sounds to add: Fast zombie berserk, Footsteps, Poison zombie breathing, Zombine scream, zombine radio sounds, Playground memories. The noises from the red glados ball.

By the way, I love how you can't capture it on camera (RT camera maybe)

Also very excellent entity and it scares the hell out of me. But I'd have it go crazy when ignited.

Awesome gamemode idea.

A big map in the apature science theme with loads of companion cubes all around you, There's one of these and an incinerator.

Find the evil one and chuck it into the incinerator to score. You (what the fuck smartness loss?) loose scores for trying to incinerate regular cubes.

all incinerated cubes are replaced. Stabbed people don't come back. winner is the one with the most incinerations and least deaths.

Also all the cubes randomly reshuffle.

Edit:

Cubevision.

Get a target sensor, Set it to find the cubes entname (Harmless_companion_cube)

Set the range to 9999999

Get a view controller and a beacon sensor.

Set the xyz outputs from the beacon into the xyz inputs of the view controller

Get numpad inputs for 8 5 4 and 6 and set 6 and 8 to -50 and 5 and 4 to +50 when on and 0 when off without toggle.

Wire the 5 and 8 into a add gate and the 4 and 6 into a separate add gate.

Wire the two add gates to two separate accumulators.

Wire one to pitch and one to yaw. (I don't know either. Fiddle about till 8 goes up and 5 goes down 6 goes right and 4 goes left.

Now wire another numpad input set on * or . or something to the activate on the view controller.

You now have a cube eye view. Beware, the cube now thinks your blind and will stab you right in the ass as you watch. But it's great fun multiplayer.
