==GM_BOTMAP==

=Information=

gm_botmap is based around the idea that a map should be created which suits almost everyone's needs to the greatest extent possible, in many respects gm_botmap serves this purpose as much as it possibly can. The other reason is that more and more maps are starting to look a lot like each other with little added extras, so gm_botmap has a totally different environment to what has been created before it and has been highly optimized so that it can run on a range of PC specifications and has been adapted for things such as Reliable Snaphsot Overflows and general lag. Yes there are a few limitations to what can be done with a map of this size and complexity, one of them being the lack of a 3D Skybox, this is mainly because the map is too big for any more constructions to be added to it as if it does have more added the compile will fail. This map took a lot of patience not only to build but to compile (racking up to 8 hours on one compile at one point). To show the details of gm_botmap this thingshappen has created a list on what is believed to be every aspect of the map below. Also below is the download information, where you can select three different types of download methods and the XURAS forum for gm_botmap.

=Features=

The map runs in Garrys Mod using only HL2 textures - No Counter Strike, Episode 1, Episode 2, etc. Required

Arena

* Centre ramp falls down if an object is placed on
* Storage area for vehicles, toggle button to release them

Barriers at track edges to stop trains falling off

* Pop up if someone switches the track

Boat build area with water area

* Dry/Wet dock, moving platform to launch boats using a toggle button. Easier to build on water.
* Contains RT Screens.
* Space to build two boats at a time in the dry dock.
* Large water area.
* Has a ramp into the water from the train track, and a ramp that faces upwards for stunts

Custom maze room

* Press use to make wall blocks pop up.
* Large area, allowing complex mazes to be built.

Easy track switching

* Put a Wire User on the train and drive over the button while activating the user to switch tracks.
* Can stay in train while track switching.

Four Private build rooms

* Doesn't allow people to access the rooms using noclip (Sends them to a Jail Room).
* Doors lockable and unlockable from inside, so you can build in peace.
* Each room is separate from the map, meaning if someone is building something complex outside you won't see a performance drop.
* Next to train track network.
* Four separate rooms available.

Games room

* Two Bowling Alleys.
* Basket ball court.

Hill room

* Massive size.
* Small and large hills for all sorts of suspension.

Lift building

* Has space for two lifts to be built at once.
* Ramps on the inside of the building so you can walk to all floors.
* Floor numbers
* Space for Wire Screens (E.g. To show floor that the lift is on).

Lift from underground to overground

* Easy transition for trains (Especially if you have keep upright).
* Can be used for other vehicles.

Maps of the map

* Shows an overview of the map at important areas.
* Arrows on the map pinpoint where you are.

Massive train track network linking to all areas of the map

* Two separate tracks heading to EVERY section of the map.
* Compatible with PHX, although custom sliders are also available for extra stability.

Minge Jail

* For people who try to noclip into the private build rooms.
* Impossible to get out of unless you kill yourself.

Ramp area

* Four ramps pointing in different directions for stunts etc.
* Open space in center, for extra building if needed.

RT screens in main areas of the map

* Shows videos from RT Cameras in important areas of the map.
* If you have no Prop Protection, make sure physgun_limited is set to 1 in console.

Small hill area on the overground section of the map

* Smaller area than Large underground hill area.
* Smaller hills.
* For basic suspension testing.

Stations at the main areas of the map

* Colour coded for automatic trains.
* Links main parts of the map together using the train network.

Teleporters to important areas of the map

* Teleporters at Spawn, to different key areas of the map.
* All teleporters outside of Spawn link back to spawn.
* Teleporters all labelled, and if you press 'use' on the Overview Map at spawn it shows you the nearest teleporter.

Train aligner

* Allows you to easily place trains on the track.
* Works for almost all trains, although it is specifically designed for long trains, which are hard to get back on track.
* The further back on the train aligner you go, the easier it is to put the train on the track.

Train build room

* Contains custom Sliders (Two types) for trains (More stable than wheels, allows more speed). Also make sure that the sliders are super iced in the physical properties.
* Four small track areas to build trains.
* One main track section to build on the bottom of the trains and send trains out to the network.

Train Station Signs

* Shows station letter (A, B, C, D, E or F).
* Shows GPS coordinates, for advanced trains.
* Colour coded for basic trains.
* Shows what areas are close to the station.

Tutorial room with projector

* Custom whiteboard gets projected onto a screen for tutorials.
* RT Screen can be changed to display other things.

Two Dedicated build rooms

* Large space, for general building, not lockable.
* Two separate areas to spread the amount of people in each area.

Two Race tracks

* Underground track: Simple circular track, with pop up obstacles and suspension test.
* Overground track: Complex track for testing bots or custom vehicles.

Two turntables

* One over ground, one underground.
* Easy to turn trains around.

Vast open space

* For large outdoor projects.
* Very Large space for building.

Warehouse

* Can be used as a storage facility.
* Objects can be passed through the Warehouse to the track next to it.

You can press use on an area on the spawn maps to show you the nearest teleporter for that location.

No Noclip compatible also, meaning it is as easy to use without noclip available.

Optimised so that certain rooms are secluded so there is less lag in as many areas as possible - if something is laggy overground for example, it won't be laggy underground, this also reduces the chances of a Reliable Snapshot Overflow.

Warning signs to stop the risk of derailing on fast/long trains.

=Downloading methods=

There are three ways to download gm_botmap, the reason being that everyone has their own preferences so prefer different things. These methods are:

(1) Auto installer (http://xuras.co.cc/index.php/topic,21.0.html)
(2) Separate RAR files for Texture files and map files (http://xuras.co.cc/index.php/topic,22.0.html)
(3) All in one RAR with all textures and map files contained as an addon (http://xuras.co.cc/index.php/topic,24.0.html)

Remember, if you don't like downloading executable files use methods (2) and (3) instead, all you need to do is follow the instructions.

This map is much more like gm_wirecontruct, only with way more things to do :)

I run this on my server, when it's up, and you can do anything on here, I'm yet to find something you can't do on this map!

Yeah, on the sliders you have to put physical properties to Super Ice, Controls for it are W and S.

As for the skybox... My memory is short so I'll check now... I can say now that it is definitely tall enough for planes

Edit: It is equivalent to stacking Gordon 110 times (7974 units high).

Would it be possible to have a section at the top of the map with a space box?

An area that utilises the spacebuild gamemode when its turned on. With a no gravity and space environment. Means people can test ships in this map. or live in space.... Would perfect the all rounder map style.

It's an awesome map and all, but the private should have some protection.
And no im not talking about ppl getting in...im talkin bout mass protection....So people dont get in there, lock the doors, then spawn craploads of items until it crashes the server and noone can get in.....need to fix that lol

That would be a script (or similar thing) implemented server side, not on the map.

Those dispacements look horrible :vomit:. Try using a higher power for them in the future so they aren't so spikey and blocky.

errr, i'm not sure if anyone else is getting this, but my download seems to go incredibly slowly, getting as low as 236 bites a second. i really want to get this map! wireconstruct was epic in all, but this adds tonnes more in a new style! i love it!

but a recomendation: how about adding a phys-elevator to it? the elevator on wireconstruct was the only thing that kept bringing me in! especialy if its deep, deep elevator shafts are awesome

The problem with all these addon requests is that each time we add something it risks making the compile completely fail, as it is, it takes 8 hours to compile. All those ideas above were in the BETA at one point. As for the downloads, there's more downloads on another server at http://xuras.co.cc

I've noticed that whenever this map is playing on my server and I play for a while, everyone's ping is catapulted up to around 700. I know it's a map cause no-one built anything on it, and I tested it against Mobenix, which is much bigger. Is it optimized? I mean with areaportals and hint brushes and stuff.

Yeah it is optimized, I haven't ever seen this problem before. I've been on many different servers and they have actually had less lag, less RSO's and they run perfectly fine. The only reason I can see anything wrong with it is something locally. Plus I don't actually believe that Mobenix is that much bigger, it just seems bigger.

Yeah, I could, but I'm not thinking about new releases for a while yet. I'm not the type of person who releases a map, thinks there's a few things I've missed out and a few days later releases a V2 version. I try to make it right the first time then wait until I find something that really needs changing.

Suggestion 1 make an outdoor plain off-road area and a tall tower (solid) for wall climbing vehicles. Suggestion 2 ; make a little war like area. Suggestion 3 Give this dude mapping king!
Please do a gm_botmap_v2 but make the grass like that on this map:

There is little we can compile, and at the moment we are not considering a V2 version, there already is a war like area, you can use the arena. But thanks for the mapping king :D

Dedicated server, not some home server, running this map! We have nearly all the Stargate addons, some sweps, loads of stools and some great admins. We are a peaceful building server with some strict rules to make your experience fun :D

I really like this map! but if you make a new version you need a different water texture. Its to dark under water, you could use the Gm_construct water. This is only a suggestion though.

You don't get access to the room when you're an admin, you have to figure out a way in.

only thing i would suggest is to make the ming room clear all props. no reason to give them their own private build space to launch weapons from.

How does on access the admin room, without cheating into it?
(If I use the adv. Ball socket trick, use it on a white hole, spawn a black hole, and ride vehicle into it, I am out.)
It should have used an anti prop field like in some maps.

I'm not saying how to get into the 'admin' room, since it is not actually an admin room, just something for the BETA testers. I really should have put anti props in certain areas, but it's too late now to go about changing things.

I did notice that, but that was after I posted it, which is why I sent you a message saying to reject it. It was later posted again, because Sleepy didn't notice that I had posted it before, so re-sent the same post. Sorry for that. nope i can't extract it. it is saying that the file is corrupt!
it downloads fine but then i need to extract it it says: can't extract the file . ! D:\program\Steam\steamapps\Username\garrysmod\garr ysmod\maps\gm_botmap_ai1[1].zip: CRC failed in gm_botmap.bsp. The file is corrupt
yay the download takes 1 hour for me XP (6 Kb sec)
