Well, according to you, you run Vista. I however, run XP 32bit. That gives your dual core the advantage because Vista knows how to use multi-core in games when XP does not, effectively halving my processor power in most any game. However, Vista is also a process hog, so my RAM is likely counting for more, since Vista's RAM requirements compared to XP's are considerbaly higher to achieve the same results.
Our machines are probably graphic equals, but in the case of RAM, my machine has an advantage for the system requiring fewer idle processes.
I haven't played all of Crysis either, just the levels in the demo. And I can't play on highest possible settings for Crysis because my machine uses DirextX 9. I was able to play it full with no lag on the highest settings Crysis would let me set it to. And considering the demo is unoptimized, meaning it needs more power than the final release, I'd assume I'd have even less trouble with running the full game.
And I don't think the lasers are a graphics issue. The effect itself is pretty simple. Just like fire effects are really simple in GMod. Animated sprites don't take much graphics power at all. They're just alpha mapped facing particles. It's the code controlling what those sprites behavior is that causes the lag, and I'm sure all of that is worked out by the processor. Your processor has full reign while mine is cut in half because of XP.
To me, that means the code for the laser is asking for a lot of calcualtions or else is emitting a constant stream of tracers or something that's causing the lag.
