Name: Delirium
Genre: FPS/Horror/Psychological Horror
Engine: Source 2007
Year: TBA
“Delirium” follows the psychological horrors of a man named Miles Dennison, a deranged killer. Miles is in his thirties, and has been diagnosed with numerous mental disorders. Schizophrenia and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder appear to be most notable.
A group of students at Stanford University have been researching mental instability in humans, and have developed a device capable of taking a persons dreams and displaying them as video. Not only does this allow for a greatly enhanced look at what a disorder can cause in a person, it also gives the field of psychology a wealth of new knowledge.
Miles Dennison was chosen as one of the test subjects, due to his unique combination of disorders, out of a handful of one-hundred. The team only needs around thirty tests to have sufficient information on Miles Dennison. (So thirty levels in other words.)
The main objective behind the game is the students use of Miles Dennison in an attempt to increase the knowledge on delirium and dementia in humans.
The player is essentially being put in the crazy dreams of Miles Dennison. But, what makes this so different? Nothing actually hurts you. There’s violence and all that stuff, but rather than dying, you go into cardiac arrest when your "Self-Awareness" meter reaches zero. If that happens, you are simply ejected from the machine and are revived. But this will put a toll on you. You end up becoming more and more susceptible to going into cardiac arrest and then eventually go into a permanent coma/vegetative state . The only way to prevent your self-awareness meter from dropping is to stop taking damage. Over time it will replenish. If you desperately need it, then there will by some type of entity to replenish it.
There’s no crazy monsters, and not all the dreams are insane. Some start off peaceful, while others are scary as all hell. But, this being a psychological horror, psychological being the key word, I’d like to keep the zombies and monsters on low.
So, here’s what I need from you.

UPDATES
6/13/2009:
CHANGED: Changed concept of going into cardiac arrest. There is now going to be a Self-Awareness meter, much like the Synchronization Bar in
Assassin's Creed. When it reaches zero, you go into cardiac arrest. The only way to replenish it is to stop taking damage and to give it time to fill back up.
CHANGED: Rather than dying, you go into a permanent coma/vegetative state.
CHANGED: Name is now "Delirium." It seems more fitting, eh?
ADDED: There won't be any invisible walls. Instead, when the player heads into an out of bounds zone, they will start to loose self-awareness and the area around them will start to corrode and dematerialize until the player reaches their perma coma. The way to stop this is to simply walk back to the in-bound zones and let the bar replenish.
ADDED: Miles Dennison now has a past as a psychotic murder.

So, what do you guys think about this? I haven’t seen much of any of this done before. So I assume it’s semi-original and creative.
