GMod Tower is a project comprised of many different unique gamemodes hoping to build a diverse community.
Essentially, the server (or tower) acts as a base for all the gamemodes it contains. You are not limited to one type of gameplay. The community forms what makes the tower interesting and the community controls how it's ran.
In the tower, you will have access to personal suites, stores (for upgrading), a whole batch of unique gamemodes, and more.
There are plenty of well-thoughtout features/systems for your connivence. Trading (including currency exchange), grouping, private chatting, queuing, upgrades, awards (similar to achievements), and hand-picked administrators, just to name a few.

GMod Tower's design and idea was first created late March 2006. Originally, the project's goal was to create a large building for celebrating GMod 10's release. This was later canceled due to the push back of GMod 10's release date. After rethinking and expanding on the idea, GMod Tower was born. GMod Tower was first posted here late December 2006. Since then, we have had a total of 178,575 views and 5,514 replies (this is a combined amount with the old thread).
We've come a long way since then. Numerous design and staff changes led to a choppy work flow, thus delaying our first estimated release date. We finally decided on the last design and staff members. Because of this fact, we're able to work faster. We're also able set deadlines within the team. However, we had to redesign most of GMod Tower, which makes anyone who followed this project before January 15th, 2008, lost and confused a little.

We now no longer have sections for different member types. Everyone in our staff contributes in many ways.
- MacDGuy - Project leader and visionary. Deals with mapping, graphics, sound, and website.
- Nican - Coding leader and director. Handles most of the code for the tower..
- AzuiSleet - Badass coder. Creates amazing gamemodes all while staying cool.
- Sunabouzu - Mapping and modeling genius. Helps out with nearly everything except coding.
- Spacetech - Helps out with a lot of different Lua coding efforts.
- Nuggets - GMod Tower server hoster and overall awesome person.
- Bigboy897 (Thomas) - Our resident furry. Beta tester who helps with ideas.
- Dragon90101 - Beta tester who lives down under, mate.
- Syphen - Beta tester who gives lots of moral support.
- Margerine - Pays for and manages the forums. No longer active, so don't bother him!

The basic idea behind floors is to offer different genres for the community to enjoy. Put simply, each floor is its own genre of gamemodes.
To read more about each floor, click on its name to be forwarded to our website which includes media and Wiki-style linking.
- Floor 1 - GENERAL
The basic idea behind floors is to offer different genres for the community to enjoy. Put simply, each floor is its own genre of gamemodes.
To read more about each floor, click on its name to be forwarded to our website which includes media and Wiki-style linking.- Lobby (Completed) - A place where you can talk and sit around, all while admiring the entrance to the tower.
- Entertainment Plaza (Completed) - Contains stores for upgrading your fashion and suites, an arcade with plenty of games for your enjoyment, a fully featured bar, and a food court to hang out with friends.
- Pool (Inside & Outside) (On Hold) - A relaxing indoor and outdoor pool for you to bask in the glorious env_sun. Comes with diving boards, lazy river (with tubes), volleyball, snack shack, and jacoozies topped with delicious reggae music.
- Floor 2 - SUITES
On this floor, you'll have the ability to rent out a suite from our hotel. Your suite is always with your account, even if you check-out or disconnect. To check-in, talk to the NPC lady under the big "Registration" sign in the center of the floor.- Suites (Completed) - Your suite is essentially your home in the tower. You'll have the ability to upgrade furniture, gain new features (such as a Shoutcast enabled radio), and use it for storing items when you run out of inventory slots.
- Floor 3 - ACTION GENRE
This floor contains every gamemode we've created that we feel fits the action genre well.- PVP Battle (Completed) - A wacky, Jaykin' Bacon: Source inspired deathmatch gamemode. Tons of insane weapons are at your disposal. With six explosive minute matches and creative maps, you're sure to enjoy this fast-paced FPS deathmatch geared towards the most badass of FPS players.
- GMT Adventure (On Hold) - Travel with Sunabouzu and MacDGuy through an epic side-scrolling adventure that comedically retells the events of GMod Tower's development. We're almost as insane as you think.
- Stealth (name TBA) (To Be Announced) - Cleverness and wits have never had so many babies before this Metal Gear Solid inspired espionage gamemode arrived. Out smart your foes using the environment and your squad. It's a soldier versus sly world out there, you know.
- Floor 4 - PUZZLE GENRE
A little thinking never hurt anyone. The gamemodes on this floor, as mentioned, are puzzle based.- Puzzle: Impossible (On Hold) - Investigate a rampant AI and discover the truth behind Project Anna. Enter the AI's playground and think, dodge, and blast your way into the memory core.
- Ball Race (ICompleted) - Eat bananas and roll your way around this Super Monkey Ball inspired gamemode. With five worlds each with ten levels (50 levels), you'll have tons of fun for a good while.
- Floor 5 - SURVIVAL GENRE GENRE
This floor is truly dedicated to the players who dare test the horrific unknown. These gamemodes are for players who want a little spook in their adventures.- Twists of the Mind (On Hold) - Travel through a thick forest and unveil the mystery behind the recent killings. Survive your way through challenging puzzles and enemies.
- The Gallery (To Be Announced) - Gamemode is under construction. More information coming at a later date.
- Floor 6 - CASUAL GENRE GENRE
These gamemodes are fun, light-hearted games that can be played by nearly anyone. They have as much point as you make them to.- Harvest (name TBA) (To Be Announced) - Based on, you've guessed it, Harvest Moon. Grow crops and build up your farm through even the harshest seasons of the year. Compete with other farms in attempt to collect the most cash from crops or livestock. Oh, there's cowlions.
- Mini-Golf (To Be Announced) - This gamemode is under reconstruction. More information coming at a later date.
Wait, where's the rest of the gamemodes/floors you've mentioned in the past?
Sadly, they have either been dropped or have merged with another gamemode. After careful planning and long discussions, we feel this is the most complete list to date. That doesn't mean we won't be updating the tower with new content including gamemodes, of course.
Also, isn't this a tower? I mean 6 floors is just a small building...
You think too much, stop it.

- Administration Management
Players abusing or annoying other players will be handled by online administrators.
- Player and Prop Protection
The tool gun and prop spawning will be completely disabled throughout the entire tower. Players will never be able to shoot other players, so murders cannot be committed. However, if a player is desperate enough to damage a player another way, they will get kicked off the server. The second offense will lead to a 3 month ban and the third offense will lead to a permanent ban. Killing in non-combat areas (i.e. suite, entertainment plaza, etc.) is the only way you "win" yourself a ban.
- Support for 30 Players
The server will hold 30 players max. We feel that 30 GModers is enough to enjoy the tower. If the server ends up becoming full 24/7, a server upgrade will be made and the player limit will be raised (however, our budget increases).
- Save/Load Database Management
Everything will be saved to a MySQL server and backed up daily.
- Room For More Floors
GMod Tower was designed to add floors and gamemodes easily.
- Lua Connected Servers
The tower is the base server. Each gamemode will be on its own server. You have to join the base server in order to access the gamemode servers.
