[Aven]

Written by Daniel Keyes in 1958, Flowers for Algernon is about a mentally challenged (read: retarded) man who works a menial job, and who was chosen to undergo a surgery to increase his intelligence threefold. I don't want to spoil the story by telling any more of it, but bad things happen. :3:

A friend of mine suggested this to me a while ago and I read it.

Definitely one of my favorite short stories... which are all science fiction, coincidentally. Having a science fiction treasury will do that.

Same, except my teacher made us overanalyze it to death, looking for symbols and shit.

I was all "what" because I had no idea what the fuck was going on, I think I'll read it again

Seen the movie.
Did a play on it in our theatre class. I played Joe, the baker.

I happen to like the story and thought the movie was decent.
Overall I suggest people to read it, because it's an interesting, little book.

I read this story a couple of years ago. It's definetly a sad tale. I wished it would've had a better ending than the guy going back to being retarded and not getting the girl, but I guess it couldn't be helped. Atleast the guy ends up being happy.

I liked it a lot more before I had to do classwork, because writing letters and diary entries in the first person kind of ruins the story for me.
