Written by Daniel Keyes in 1958, Flowers for Algernon is about a mentally challenged (read: retarded) man who works a menial job, and who was chosen to undergo a surgery to increase his intelligence threefold. I don't want to spoil the story by telling any more of it, but bad things happen. :3:
