I started to cry when I heard about this. Why in the fuck would you kill all these animals? I understand with this economy being shitty, but really, when our animals are endangered and wanting to do this is sick.
Unless this is a tactic for them to get people to fund raise and save these animals, but still, its horrible.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,531650,00.html

The Franklin Park Zoo, a Boston landmark for nearly a century, may be forced to close and euthanize up to a fifth of the animals in its care due to devastating budget cuts.

New England's largest zoo and its counterpart, the Stoneham Zoo, saw their state funding cut from $6.5 million to $2.5 million by Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick, the Boston Globe reported, and expects to run out of money by October.

Zoo officials said they would have to lay off most of their 165 employees and find new homes for the more than 1,000 animals they currently house, the Globe reported. Those they cannot relocate — at least 20 percent, officials estimate — may have to be destroyed.

That's horrible...

Unfortunately, I don't think we can really stop this though. It's a huge shame to see such a senseless waste of life.

Someone will try to save them. Some wild life preservation or PETA will protest the hell out of them.

Well, depends on what type animals they are. If they happen to be the Jonas Brothers, I'll pay them to do it.

It's pointless to protest if they don't have any money.

Couldn't care less. What value do the animals have, from being in the Zoo? (and I don't mean monetary value.)

Well what do you mean? The animals are still conscious and can still see and feel.

Animals may not have the value of a human to us, but that doesn't mean they are without value. Animals make great companions and even friends, it's a shame to see people like you who put the life of anything but a human at 0.

But yeah, poor animals.

so society euthanize animals simply for financial purposes but puts suffering hospital victims on life support? makes perfect sense.

why not sell the animals. Not to save them but for profit so they can keep the zoo running with what ever they have left

Yeah, they should euthanise the less exciting animals and sell them off as rare and delicious meats, and then use the money they rake in to support the other animals!

They have cows at the fair, at the "zoo" area each year. I love cows, even though they smell like shit.

I wish we could help these animals, but it would cost too much money out of the zoos income to take these animals to their natural habitats around the world. It would just cost too much in fuel, food, and other expenses that would be needed for a completely humane way of releasing them.

Wow that sucks. If the economy goes the way it been going, then it's going to be even worse. I went to the Zoo a few days ago, not this one mind you, but it was free aside from a subway and bus ticket. A lot of fun for so little money... really sucks.

You don't find cool stuff that's cheap to do like that anymore.

If the wealthy go up in arms about helping out the poor with an american version of the NHS, do you really think they would donate money to a bunch of animals.
