Me and some friends are going making a custom Dark RP server, based around the game Fallout 3. Our plans are as follows:
- When you eat your rads goes up, and when you take radaway your rads go down, also you turn into a ghoul if it goes really low
- We will replace the money and the Counter Strike Source models with bottlecaps, as it is in the game
- We are going to replace all the weapons that you can order to Fallout 3 weapons and add some more
- AND LOADS MORE

- A GOOD Fallout 3 themed map, that we have not come across yet, although we have an idea that might work
- What we are looking for is a map with a small vault to start in with, a HUGE wasteland outside with a big town for the wastelanders, a big base for the BOS and Enclave as well and lots of little run down buildings/campsites for raiders and slavers and some place for the ghouls to live. In effect, its Fallout 3 without all the stupid fucking empty wasteland in between :)

A good map is cscdesert.
It has a vault with housing, jails, hospital, and other things. But when you enter it's all pitch black and you have to find this thing to start up the generator to get power... it's found in a storage room. (This could be used for the vault citizens)
It does have a good place for raiders. It's an underground cave that seems to have looked like a smaller vault but not as good. It also has a pit of nuclear waste at the very bottom of the place. And it also needs that thing from the vault to start up the generator for lighting. ( I would use this for raiders)
And the entrance to this is like an entrance to a parking lot then a building with a few time bombs. you have to use the bombs to blow off the entrance to the cave to get in since it's blocked off by boulders and stuff.
It has a town in the middle but it's not like megaton. It has housing, a restaurant/bar with a cellar and another cellar under that cellar but it has a table with saws and brutally tortured dead people and a small underwater tunnel that leads to the well in the center of town. It has a building for a sheriff with a desk a watch tower and a jail with one cell. A place that looks like a farm right out side of the town with a house for who ever owned it (with a cellar where you can store things). A couple of shop stalls every now and then. Similar to that lady in megaton who sold food outside.
An underground place that has computers and stuff and bombs and (i've never played fallout 3) it seems to be perfect for the enclave.
Lots of wasteland. The only thing other than a wasteland above ground is the town a couple of shacks (one of them has a tunnel that takes you to an underground cave and at the end is the vault. The other is has a tunnel that takes you to this system of pipes and stuff and an un-openable vent that on the other side is this pipe room for that place that is good for the enclave. the place that leads to that underground place that's good for the raiders. The entrance to the place for the enclave. A big hole in the ground that looks like a nuclear bomb hit that spot. If you step in it you begin to lose health until you step out. Mountains surrounding the entire area. And last but not least a long road that goes from one side of the map to the other.
It also has a hidden building behind some terrain where it's like a garage entrance then a door next to it and inside is just some open space and then stairs that lead to a computer room. (could be used for slaves)
There's still some more things I think but I say that this map is the best RP map of all time. It was used back in the Gmod9 days for LightRP and it's a great map.
If you want to use it just download it from garrysmod.org and type in cscdesert. Just no clip around the entire map and you'll see how much there is. If you haven't seen it before just PM start up a server and I guess I can show you around unless you have someone who already knows everything in it.
The only down side to it is that it doesn't have a ton of rundown buildings like you wanted... It's really just a bunch of desert terrain with everything that I mentioned.

Most of those SWEPs are really simple if you have the models already made. I don't think you need all those guns, anyways. I know it's based on Fallout 3, but too many guns spoils the RP.

why do people always use fallout 3 as a base. 1 and 2 had a better feeling towards "fallout" if you ask me. Sure you can't use models from Fallout 1 and 2, but they've already been ported to fallout 3 which then can be ported to Gmod.
Though I do get the feeling the OP will say he never played those two.

I agree, while I absolutely adored Fallout 3, and I just love Bethseda for all of their work, Fallout 1 and 2 would make more sense as a base.

But now we need help with the model for it.

What we need is someone to make a model, that is a heap of caps, so if i drop 2000 caps, it wont just show up as one, or 2000 single caps (Not going to be fun picking those up), but rather jut a heap of caps.
It doesn't have to correspond to the number, it just has to look like a fair bit of caps.

So did any of my findings help you at all? Just wondering cause I really never got a reply.
Oh and for the rad away: try to make a re-skin of the ration packages from HL2. Also don't forget the frag mines so put in the SLAM or maybe I can find something for you hold on a sec.
And I just got fallout 3 a week ago so now I could be of more use.

Although it's been a couple of years since i role played with my friends in D&D and I've never role played on Gmod I'd like to get into this once it's done. Keep up updated won't you? Also, a general "fallout" search on garrysmod.org produced quite a bit of results, if that helps.

Oh and I also just came up with an idea:
Why not use that new helicopter vehicle for the helicopter for the enclave?
It just needs some editing and restrictions and you got an enclave helicopter. It's not like the one in the game but it'll work. It can carry up to 4 people and has weaponry (Which is the part that needs to be restricted. It would be too OP)
Restrictions:
Only admin may spawn it for special events or only the leader of the enclave can spawn it in with the admin's permission?
Weaponry is removed
Also put mayor back in and rename it to that president in Fallout 3 can't remember his name though. :(
Try to put in a radio command for certain people like the president or anyone that might wanna RP as Three Dog.

Sounds awesome. The Radio sounds like a good idea but it would be pretty tough.
Maybe a buyable PIP-BOY model for the freind finder?
CSC_Desert is a perfect map for it however, it is very big and requires a lot of players to prevent lonliness :(

I was thinking o just having radios around the map that play some song from fallout but thats a nice idea
I was thinking of making the HUD at the bottom right of the screen have a pip-boy background and have the pip-boy casing around the HUD, but that will be an extra add on later just doing the main things for now.
I have one of my clan members making a map so it will be perfect for everyone. :)

DANGIT! My high curiosity has failed me... I'm at the part where you need to search for an entrance into vault 87 in Little Lamp Light.
But it's not the first time. I already knew that dad dies but I didn't know it would be in the rotunda when the enclave come in in the middle of your expirement and then Dad kills him self by using the radiation in the rotunda to save you. But I wanted that guys clothes (The guy with the neat coat and awesome hat :) ) I thought it would be in some jail in the enclave base or something and didn't expect him to die until the near end.
it's just like that robot in the National Archives that thinks he's Thomas Jefferson or someone famous like that
Anyway back to the topic.
I also came up with another Idea. Use the radio from engine mod but then change the music from the default and add in all the lines from Three Dog and President John along with all the music. Just make two different radios that play different music when you use them.

Although this is DarkRP, it seems very promising. I may check this out when it's done.
Also, It would be better if you had to explore and find caps and items, kinda like in Fallout, instead of it just giving you 45 caps every hour. I tried this other fallout RP and it had water (dirty and clean) spawned randomly in predefined locations. I'm not sure how this works, but maybe you could implement something similar. It would add to the realism, and give you something to do.

Hate when people say Fallout 3, rather than Fallout. All took place in the same unisverse, stop acting like Fo1+Fo2 never existed.

What I meant was take the whole thing like the entire radio broadcast int he beginning of the game before he starts talking about the Lone Wanderer then put that as one music file. It sure is long but it's still one music file. Same with President John's speech and patriotic music. It's only two files and only one of them is big. The president only talks about 3 things really then there's two or 3 songs (Before they find the water purifier.)
If this is possible then do it.
