SMAC - Sinewave Modulated Adjustable Cannon


A totally new way to blow your enemies to hell! Everyone LOVES a pulse-orb cannon... how about THREE? This unique gun fires not one, not two but three mini-pulse-orbs that follow a sine wave pattern that YOU CAN CONFIGURE! This gun doesn't have a clip so it feeds from your AR2 ammo stash as it needs to. Press reload to bring up the in-game configuration panel and tweak the gun to work HOW YOU WANT IT TO. Presets save your settings for later, allowing you to create hundreds of different configurations to suit different situations! Targets all in a line? Make it fire tighter and faster! Targets all spread out? Design your own riot control preset! It's even possible (with a few careful settings and adjustments) to create a pulse-orb barrier!

Enough reading already, GO HURT SOMETHING!

Yeah - the other one was supposed to be a WIP/Teaser only... couldn't find where to put it. Meh. This is the real slim shady right here :)

I will admit a slight inspirational source of the same name. It was the first NES game I ever played :) The actual source of initial inspiration was far less interesting, however, and consisted of one deranged lunatic staring at a three-phase power socket too long. Ha ha ha hoo hee... er... where's my bacon at?

I've made a small modification to this which you can change the number of balls. Good job on this weapon and it's coding though, that made it easy to modify.

That's always the idea. Thanks for noticing. Careful on the number of balls, though - it was designed so that the balls move in a way that they never collide (no fair using no-collide) :)

If you look in the models folder, there is one on the bench but it's not ready yet. It needs to be rotated and fixed and I just thought... "Nah, fuck it" - You guys can play with the gun and have addictive fun until I am ready to finish that part.

He he he - a purist! :) Yeah, I know. The API is a little funny on that and it made a bit more sense to leave it in degrees rather than Pi. :) But if you want to add a switch to change the GUI to use radians, be my guest!

EDIT: Does work. Had a play tonight. It's so theraputic to wipe out armies of zombies without even moving from their front line.... And Breen ALWAYS deserves to die.

Just a thought - if anyone makes any interesting orb pattern screenies they would like to post, go right ahead (be sure to post the settings to get them too). One of my faves is the tight but wide figure eight patterns that act as a slowly advancing orb-barrier. Spawn a line of npcs... standard or fast zombies... or ... anything, really... and stand back. Not many get through :) Then there's the standard (default) primary fire shot.... Ok. Fine. I love them all. I can't choose favourites amongst my children... :D

Hope everyone's out there hurting something!

Well, this is what I am using at the moment - it's not perfect but it creates a lateral figure eight pattern that is very fast and thin (have a look using noclip from above once you've fired it) - it also moves very slow (the orbs move fast but the whole thing moves slow).

I translated this from the preset file:

Angle: 135
Flatten: ON
Rotation Speed: 25.28 (but I don't think that matters....can't remember, CBF to check)
Forward Velocity: 0
Frequency: 10
Function: Sine
Orb Velocity: 5400

I think I made a better one and didn't save it.... Anyhow, have fun!

Yes, now those 100-150 zombies that it takes to put a lag on my computer can feel mah awesomeness, great work. If someone would recommend a mass NPC spawner, that takes a while to spawn that many:)

Please post the exact message. On top of that, here's a few other things to try:

1. Are you running in Multiplayer? That's where it was designed for and I never write stuff for single player, really.
2. If multiplayer, what kind of server are you running? Dedicated or Listen (regular)
3. What other addons are you using? Try removing addons.
4. Where did you put the smac folder? It should be in your addons directory in garrysmod.

Let me know - the people must ALL be hurting something!!!

Just bind this to any key not being used at the moment (here are mine):

bind "," "gmod_spawnnpc npc_fastzombie"
bind "." "gmod_spawnnpc npc_zombie"
bind "/" "gmod_spawnnpc npc_breen"

Then just tap away :)

I don't see why not. On top of that I think I might make it a selector so that you can choose what behavior the orbs have - collide (default), bounce or passthrough.

It's all about POWER. I used to get a similar sort of feeling when using God Mode in Doom 2 all those years ago. "Oh... you want some, do you, zombie? You want SOME? OF THIS?? *zzzffffffwiiiiii-F-POW*" I love it when the zombie head crabs fall off and catch on fire - totally unintended but hilarious all the same :)

For those who keep reminding me.... Yes... I know... the shotgun model is only temporary. Here is what the model for the gun looks like. When I get time to do it, I will fix this world model then make the view model - but there are other things higher on my priority list. If anyone else wants to do it and can follow simple guidelines (being an awesome modeller helps), apply here!

1. i play in singleplayer, but i 'll try on multi.
2.singleplayer.....
3.i have anarmy of addons....incredibly big amount....

Well that's truly weird. It's saying that it can't call the math library's random number function. Is there anything special about your system? All legit Gmod stuff from steam? Addons etc? Thanks for the screenshot - I will have a look at possible issues at that spot soon.

So I thought I might just post here to tell you "Good job"

@the model: Does it really have to be a shotgun? I'd rather like to see something similar to the HPD or AR2

EDIT: You might wanna change the origin of the ball, so it acutally looks like it's coming from the gun
You'll also need to fix primary and secondary delay (You can fire both with seperate delays)

And well, it's just kinda boring to use

Wow, there's not many sweps I like these days, but this one is da bomb. Like some other guy said, make it where you can change if the orbs bounce off walls and stuff.

Also, it might be cool to make it where you can change the refire rate of the gun or if it's semi-auto or auto, etc.

Also, view punch. Guns don't feel manly without view punches.

holy fawk this SWEP kicks ass. and its easy to download. I dont have any problems but one. The orbs...when i would test it out i would have the forward velocity to 0...so they ended up never dissapearing. i tryed spawning npcs and physgunning them into the orbs, which sortof worked. maybe add a removetime that you can set? lastly, i like the shotgun model and the one you have planned. let me know iff you ever need testers before you release it. damn thats a lot of words. im going to shut up now.

this might help but i dont know how i did this. i had this problem so i almost gave up on it. the next day though it somehow worked. i didnt change anything. i really cant contribute but maybe that scenario can shed some light.
