How big of an download is Star Trek Online?
around 10-15 gigs

I'm not entirely sure... before they were rewards for doing STFs but those were replaced, not sure where to get them now.
I think you can still get one from a late Admiral mission.
My steam copy was like 4 gigs but then there was a 4 gig patch and then if you want the FULL client its another 4 gigs.

Its the first time that earth spacedock had like 20 instances going on at once.
Yea, it's just a item set that you get from doing late game STF's.
What can you do with all the samples from anomalous readings? it's clogging up more than a quarter of my inventory.
Use them to craft items at Memory Alpha in the Alpha Centauri Sector Block, north of Sirius and next to Romulan space.
You can get the borg pieces from the NPC that gives you the tier tokens.
Its under general goods.

Or sell them on the exchange.
I've started to play this game, but I don't know if I'm playing it correctly. I'm only rank 5 at the moment, but I've noticed that it takes ages to destroy ships and the missions become long as hell as a result. Am I doing anything wrong? I'm playing tactical as my career path thing.
I don't know what I should be putting my skillpoints in and I've never really had this problem with MMOs. I guess this one is just a bit more complex on choices.
Try to take down the shields at one side, that way you'll damage them faster.
Unless you already figured that out.
I downloaded around 4 gigs from the actual site and the game starts downloading content as you play.

That's one thing that solved it in some situations, but most ships will try and circle me and then I end up just going for any part of the ship I can hit.
What i sometimes do is go at the back of ships and keep trying to hit that same spot with phasers and torpedo's.
Reminds me of the only thing that has really been annoying me to no end in this game. The turning. I don't see why they feel the need that we must do some sort of Space-U-turn instead of having the ship just turn around. Why can't ships turn around in space!
The skills descriptions explain what they do pretty well.
Check which difficulty setting you are playing on, see if you've been getting new weapons as you level up, use your abilities, rank up your skills, rank up your Bridge Officers skills, do broadside firing.
Also remember to adjust your power allocation to tactical.
I gave one of my officers a fire suppression device.
Now she thinks everything is on fire.

I love the extinguisher, it puts out every type of fire. I use it on my BOFFs if someone plasma grenades them.
I can't be bothered to wade through 15 pages, but now that STO is free to play is there any chance of it coming back on Steam like Global Agenda or DCU:O? I want to play this with my friend (who's a massive star trek fan) but I don't really want to download from their site, since prolonged HTTP downloads cause my modem to crash.
The installer is not that big, its 2 MB.
The rest is downloaded through the installer.
Can't you just turn around if you cut the throttle..? I'm pretty sure I've done that.
Dev's said that STO will be back on STEAM shortly, most likely on the 2nd of Feb.
Is it just me or is the downloader horribly slow.
If you cut the throttle you can turn on the spot but it's very slow, it's best to go to minimum impulse and turn like if you don't want to move to far but still turn.
I don't know why anybody would really need to turn on the spot anyway, if you stay still your a sitting duck.
I take it you've never used frontal weapons with a small firing arch?

Fuck these daily maintenances
Just reached Vice Admiral
Edited:
Fucking automerge.
Now, we wait for content to come.
I will be amusing myself in the TORtanic forums until then.

They also uploaded a new FE pic

That looks great, you can say what you will about Perfect World, but at least their giving Cryptic a chance to build something great.
And the F2P model isn't actually so bad.
wow, that is badass.
Is it really worth it to be an engineer in a cruiser? I'm LC 16 by now, but I feel like I'm not taking proper advantage of my defensive abilities, and I'm not sure what a decent build would be. Not to mention, at least on the normal difficulty, death is basically meaningless, since I can just respawn. Do cruisers become more important at later levels, at higher difficulties? I just feel like I'm not doing much damage. Are engineers in escorts feasible?
Sorry I haven't been here for, like, the last week. I've updated the OP with some new media and information. Remember, we're looking for members for the Facepunch fleet. You don't have to be active or anything, heck, I'm just doing it to see "The Facepunchers" over my name in-game. Just say if you want to sign up.
Yes actually, i'm only rank 28, so i'm still using my heavy escort refit, i use 2 dual cannons and a dual phaser bank on the front, a turret and a quantum torpedo launcher on the back, i never sit still it's a bad idea :P i just fly straight towards an enemy, firing all weapons, as i fly past them i use a bridge officers skill (cant remember the name) which allows me to fire off a shit load of torpedo's instead of the one, turn around, up the power to my front shields and just tail the enemy till they are pulverized (focusing fire on their rear shields). There are probably better tactics, but its fun and has done me well do far :P
here she is!
I am aware i shouldnt be using phaser and plasma weapon, it's just i havent managed to get hold of any better plasma weapons than the phaser weapons that i already have to go with the +17% plasma energy weapon damage console i have :/
just out of interest what ship are you running?
and the MKII engines, it seems weaird but they are [SPD] ones, and i've looked and looked around at MKVI ones with all sorts of effects (speed ect) and none of them give me the speed and maneuverability those do :O
Getting some very Dead Space vibes...
This game still shit ? Or has it got better.
Facepunch Fleet? "New Accounts" are allowed to join, right? Helen Godson of the U.S.S Vonnegut would gladly join the efforts
Short name and handle is Helen Godson@Mastahammah (note the H at the end)
Been playing for two days, Already hit Capt.

you are probably the 50th person I've seen in my 5 game hours to call your ship "Normandy"
I gave my current ship a Vulcan like name because my character is Vulcan.
If FP fleet is still accept pepole im Doug@DrugUnit ingame.(level 43 rear admiral)
