Another AAR for Hearts of Iron III inspired by KillerTV's.
Following Peru and it's attempt to unite the world under the banner of the Bandera de Guerra, by force if necessary.

Due to crashes Chapter 10 will be the final in Peru's great history.
Unfortunately foreign spies destroyed our records and the beginning of this shall have to be in text form. (FRAPs crashed before I started the game and I hadn't realise.)
A brief history of Peru's rise to power
1936
February: Peruvian forces seized Bolivia. The only South America nation not guaranteed liberation by America.(In a previous game as Peru I conquered 3/4 of South America, but a huge US force invaded us) Bolivia is annexed. Construction of transport boats begins.
August: With transport boats complete, 2 infantry divisions and a HQ are put aboard and they set sail. For Iceland! This of course means Peru declares war on Denmark, as they occupy the island. Peruvian forces storm the harbour of Reykjavik with no resistance. The rest of Iceland is captured within the week.
September: With Iceland captured our forces moved onto Greenland, another Danish owned island. A Danish destroyer attack our boats on the journey but none of our ships were sunk. During our invasion our supplies ran out and we only ever captured half of Greenland before having to fall back to Iceland. Without fuel or supplies our troops set in a long winter with the possibility of Danish invasion.
December: Bolivian rebels attempt to drive out our soldiers, this uprising is quickly quelled and order restored.
1937
March: Resupplied and refuelled our troops in Iceland move onto a new target. Ireland! The battle of Dublin lasted less than a day, and without its capital Ireland surrendered and become annexed. We do not know how the British feel about our occupation of Ireland. They fortified the North Ireland border heavily with tanks ever since though.
April: Liberia is invaded by our troops and annexed. Our Empire grows stronger, who next?
June: New Zealand! Our troops invaded Wellington and forced their navy out. We then quickly seized their other harbour in Christchurch leaving the NZ navy with no where to dock. Our troops quickly sweeped across the two islands and claimed all the provinces, NZ however did not fall. They must have more land somewhere else.
August: Our troops disembark from New Zealand to secure us more land closer to Peru. Dominican Republic! Captured and annexed within the day. Then we moved onto it's neighbour Haiti, with a joint land/naval strike. Captured and annexed. Then within the same week our troops invaded Cuba and after two days they surrendered. Another nation annexed for the glorious Peruvian empire!
1938
A rather uneventful year until the later months. Ireland constantly rebels so a militia/military police force is created and stationed in Dublin.
June:We locate a third island owned by New Zealand and promptly invade, finally they are annexed.
September:Albania! Conquered and annexed. Greece and Yugoslavia really didn't like this.
November:New Zealand begins an uprising against us, but the main Peruvian force is in Albania with the possibility of it's neighbours liberating it.
And now we begin, December 1938.
And the Danes have reared their heads, invading the north of Ireland. Luckily we already had troops en route to Dublin.
Our troops land south of the Danish soldiers, the Danish navy pounding our transport ships.
Engaging the Danish invaders, our transport ships managed to return to Dublin harbour in one piece. The Danish navy begins bombarding our troops however.
We defeat the incursion and our troops move back to Dublin to reboard the transport boats.
A new year, and a new rebellion. The Irish seemed to see the Danish invasion as their time to begin another uprising. The military police can handle them, my soldiers have more pressing issues to attend to.
Like invading Portugal. Our most ambitious endeavour thus far, their empire is as expansive as ours and their army just as strong. First Portugal itself shall fall then we will go for her colonies.

I agree with the above man. All it would take would be one super power to decide they didn't like the way your sombrero was cocked and you'd be fucked. Particularly Great Britain, considering their naval prowess and the fact that Ireland and Iceland are only a stone's throw away. Or once you advance farther into Europe, Germany and the USSR.

I find it hilarious he's specifically targeting only nations weaker then him, rather then building up his industry and army so he can actually take over tangible targets.

Began aligning Peru to the Allies.
The invasion of Portugal is underway, Lisbon captured and the new provisional capital in the north captured hours later.
The uprising grows in New Zealand
The last provinces fall, time for the colonies.
Meanwhile, Germany has captured Poland, and Italy is conquering France at an alarming rate.
We capture the largest Portuguese colony on the East African coast and finally a small cluster of islands off West Africa, Portugal falls and our empire grows stronger.
New Zealand however is rife with the stench of defiance!
The main army is moved in to quell this insubordination, they will have time to celebrate our victory over the Portugese later.
Beginning of a new army is underway, with the goal of finally defeating our old enemies the Danes. And France falls to Italian forces.
Our new army is complete, but it seems Germany is moving into Denmark. Our people would have so enjoyed to have Peruvian soldiers marching down the streets of their capital. Looks like we'll be racing Mr Hitler to Copenhagen.

Blitzkrieg my ass. The Peruvian navy managed to get the new 1st Peruvian Army half-way across the world before Germany could reach Copenhagen.
Our troops march across Helsingor unrestricted and into the streets of Copenhagen.
Seems the Germans hadn't managed to get rid of all the Danish army just yet though and they attempt to recapture the capital
We won't have any of that. The 1st Peruvian Army rushes to meets them in Slagese.
And victory is secured. Well played Denmark, better luck next time.
Having Denmark under our control brings Peru's total Victory Points up to 40, 7th in the world!
Because of it the Allies finally recgonize our brilliance and accept us into their ranks.
The 2nd Peru Expeditionary Force begins training to join the 1st Peruvian Army.
Oh, well I guess that's... good?

Anyone got any tips for dealing with Italy in Hearts of Iron II?

Why wouldn't you conquer South America first?
Actually, you'd be fucked if you tried to conquer South America. Germany would probably rip your asshole to shreds if you touched Argentina.

To Above: In the early game, there actually is no relation between Argentina and Germany. The only contact Argentina starts with (Or ever really gets) is a guarantee of independence by the US.

Well, an elite Panzer division was engaging my "Mechanized" divisions, which were nothing more than world-war one armoured cars. And horses. So you can guess who won.
We did! Cause we're Peru!
However while celebrating the Luftwaffe surprised us and wiped out 3/4 of the 1st Peruvian Army.
The remaining soldiers weren't going to stick around in this God forsaken hell-hole to get killed. They hopped back on the transport boats and fled to a Norwegian port
Meanwhile Britain had begun the liberation of mainland Europe, screw America. D-Day comes early.
And dammit Peru is leading this war so we're liberating them too!
Italy wasn't prepared for the might of Peru. The remnants of the 1st Peruvian Army stormed the beaches of Bretagne, overwhelming the Italian defenders in weeks. Meanwhile the "caretaker" division from Albania had been shipped in to help, invading the second Bretagne dock. The British seemed to be facing the full brunt of the Italian force in Normandy so we hoped our incursion to the west would ease some of the pressure of them.
And in return we'd get some bombers from them. No longer shall Peru dredge along the ground!
New Zealand, stop rebelling!
And my sudden withdrawal from Denmark earilier seemed to have left Sweden unprepared, Germany's now attacking Scandinavia from both ends.
Sweden's time for help will come soon. For now, France.
Italy is powerless to stop mine and Britain's advance, we'll be sipping champagne in Paris by Christmas. And, the 2nd Peru Expeditionary Force is almost near completion, thing's could not be looking better.
You treacherous dogs! By joining the Axis you have only guaranteed your deaths at the hands of Peru. This world war shall soon be upon South America.

I considered it after taking New Zealand, but I'd be in it for the long haul if I attempted a war on Australia. However they are dangerously close to joining the Soviets, so who knows what may happen. :smugdog:

Maybe if you mercilessly slaughter enough Argentinians and Ecuadorians, the rest of South America will turn to the Axis and you can conquer them too.

Just a quick question real fast. Does anyone know why it won't let me declare war on Bulgaria as Turkey... My neutrality is 0 (from cheat of course) and the "declare war" button isn't grayed out, but it won't let me click it.

It's possible that Bulgaria has been turned into a puppet state and in which case you would have to declare war on the master nation.
However, I don't think Bulgaria would have been turned into a puppet state, maybe by Yugoslavia.

Nope, I checked... definitely not a puppet state (already had that mistake with Iraq). The only thing it says is that they have claims in a couple of countries, but I don't think that has any effect on war.

Yeah, they probably have claims in Greece and Romania, but that wouldn't affect you declaring war on them. Is it possible you need like 3 diplomatic points to declare war? I don't remember if you need dip. points or not to declare war.

Finally figured it out... accidentally made diplomacy under AI control. I all of a sudden kept getting random acceptances of trade and stuff that I never initiated. :)

Thought since this is checked more, I'd ask a question I have here. Did steam ever receive the patch update? My update news for it shows the most recent being the release, and I never noticed it downloading something for HoI3..
