Thanks Grimezy15 AGAIN
Alright folks, lets cut the blablablayadada and say it:
Garry's Mod needs a recreation of Walt Disney World/Disneyland

http://steamcommunity.com/groups/wgwgl
http://golfinlexington.com/wgwp/index.php

Why, well, I shall give you some reasons.
1. Garry's Mod is a game that has many options. Imagine this: your favorite Disney theme park with more interaction and the option to design your own car and take a picture? How about that? Also, Garry's Mod would open more options to the recreation of the parks.

2. You don't like something at Disneyland? Would love to change an attraction in Walt Disney World? Well, in this project you have a chance. After all, its our recreation. If we don't like it, we will remove it and create our own mix of Walt Disney World and Disneyland.

3. I have an acess to lots of sounds and soundtracks from around the parks. So we got at least the music part guaranteed with no problems.

4. Some people already re-created Tower of Terror in GMod and the Haunted Mansion in Counter Strike, showing everyone that this is not too hard. Thats why this project will focus on getting everyone together to do one big aim - to recreate the entire Walt Disney World resort.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I present you:

Thanks to Grimezy15 to this incredible picture.
WHAT IS THE WALT GARRY WORLD/GARRYLAND PROJECT?
- The project's aim is to bring the whole community together and create the definitive version of the Walt Disney World or Disneyland resort on Garry's Mod, with new options only available at the game and things just created on it.

WHY DO WE HAVE THIS?
- As said before, the aim is to create the definitive version so both singleplayer and multiplayer can enjoy.

SO YOU HAVE AN IDEA AND WANT US TO DO EVERYTHING?
- No. I will contribute too, not mapping, but doing all the sound things. I have an 2GB collection of Disney Parks sound effects and soundtracks for attractions. The idea is not that you do something and I get the credit. I will explain more as we go.

HOW THIS WILL BE ORGANISED?
- Good thing you asked. As everyone thinks, a big map will just be laggy or/and won't even be playable. Thats why we will divide the map in sections.

WELL, THATS A GOOD IDEA... BUT AFTER THAT?
- Either we release just that and call it Garryland. Also add updates, new rides, new things and Holiday/Halloween overlays...
- Or do the other parks of Walt Disney World, and call it Walt Garry World. You choose it.
(Both are just ideas.)

Organisation:
- We will first start with Main Street. Then head to Adventureland. Next is Frontierland, then Fantasyland and Toontown. The last one will be Tomorrowland.

WHAT DO I DO?
- We currently require:
* Mappers
* Modelers/Texture Dudes
Thanks for looking at the project. We will go steady and slow. If we need to stop, we will stop. One thing at a time, thats how we will reach our goal!
(Please, no posts like "lol u fail". Detailed critiscim, if you mind)

You can help by doing researches on informations and what attractions can we port to GMod as well as recruiting some good mappers.

Very few people have done amusement rides in Gmod, because they are usually made in Gmod rather than Hammer. The only person I've seen make a ride in Hammer was Dasmatze, but he seems to have disappeared again.

DasMatze did it well, but he wanted his ride to be physics based... Most rides here will folow a pre-made track.

Hmm... I'll be honest, I would LOVE to help. I think it's a great idea. Anything I can do? I'm sure it would take several mappers to do this. It would be a miracle for just one to do this. I may not be the best mapper ever, but when I work at it, I don't do too bad. I made this:

http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=802205

That was a pretty good effort. I could do better though. I constantly am learning.

I loved that map, simply beautiful. Your help would be greatly appreciated! If you can call more friends, especially mappers, we should get a team up shortly!

Looks AWSOME if you need to test any thing PM me.
Remember: Not only mappers will be needed. If we have anything like parades, we will need to have people who do skins and models, since the stock HL2 NPCs won't help.

You and me both, pal. For now, I am just going to repeat: mappers, modelers, skinners and also, people who can do research for photos or anything so we can use as base for the videos

You forgot Star Tours... And a bunch of other rides... I could help with this thing, it looks like it has future!
As I said before, those are the basics. If we choose to do a Garryland, more rides like Star Tours, Honey I Shrunk the Audience, Storybook Land and yadayada will be added. But if we choose to do Walt Garry Land, we will do Epcot, Hollywood Studios and more.

Remember folks, Walt Disney once said: If we can dream it, we can do it!

P.S.: I will be at WDWNTunes, where you can listen to music from around the parks and chat with other people.

Great.
So, when are we going to start?
We will start today, but slowly.
Let's begin, first of all, we need the buildings for Main Street U.S.A with developer textures. Take the time you need and want, we aren't requesting it NOW.
Here are some pictures:

The Main Street Station, themed for Halloween

Two Main Street shops, themed for Halloween

The Main Street Emporium, themed for Halloween

Main Street on the Magic Kingdom. NOTE: Cinderella Castle is not a part of Main Street.

Main Street map, taken from the Disneyland map

Another look at the Emporium

Main Street City Hall

Another look at Main Street from the Town Square
Added:
- Railroad to Main Street U.S.A

This looks like a good project but keep in mind Hammer can only have so many brushes/entities in any map. You're probably going to have to scale back on detail to get the whole map down, even to the point of completely removing parts of the park or whole sections.

Also, bear in mind that if you're planning to make the whole park (Animal Kingdom, Epcot, etc), you're not going to fit every "sub-park" into one map. If you plan on doing the whole park, you're going to have to divide each "sub-park" into it's own map.

That having been said, I might be able to help with this map. I'm not the best mapper in the world, but I have mapped for a good while and I do have (some) experience. I might be able to help with other things, too.

Thanks for the suggestions, your help will be greatly appreciated. We will divide the parks into lands. Each land has, like... 3-5 attractions. Would you join the group and help us?

We will divide the parks into lands.
What does that mean, exactly? Do you mean every park (like Animal Kingdom) will be separated from every other park, or every single subdivision of every park (like Main Street U.S.A. in Magic Kingdom) will be separated from every other subdivision? I'm kind of confused here.

Also, I think we can't do a lot of the rides due to the file size. For example, you said that you had "2GB" of sound effects from Disney-World, right? Well, chances are, if we package all of those sound effects into this map, people would get scared away from downloading it due to the fact that the file size would be too gigantic. I'm not sure how many MB/GBs that you could include into the map before it would be considered "too large" memory-wise towards most people, but 2GB is, most likely, too large of a file size for the map as a whole for most people to download.

On a nearly completely other note, shouldn't this be in just "mapping" instead of "requests"?

Edit:
Also, I am not trying to bring down this map, I'm just trying to make sure that if this does become finalized, that it will be downloaded by the masses and will be as close to perfection in every way possible, and doing that means that you should know how you are limited, as well as open, to do certain things.

Wow, that's a big wall of text.

1. Each land will be its own map. For example: Main Street U.S.A its a single map, containing everything in Main Street U.S.A. This will help with the limit that the Source Engine has, and on the limits of the map I plan to include something like a sign or an a "teleporter". If you don't know what I mean by teleporter is that on Obsidian Conflict (a HL2 mod) there is a people where people can choose what map they should go. So, there would be a teleporter for each land on Main Street U.S.A EXCEPT for Toontown and maybe Bear Country if we include the Country Bear Jamboree.

2. When I said "2GB of Disney parks sounds", I mean that for each land I have lots of sounds, not 2GB for each land that we will make. All sounds together are 2GB. So, for example, in Tomorrowland we will pack the map, the custom textures and the sounds.

3. I would move the thread to Mapping, or ask to a moderator to do so.

im new to all of the map makeing stuff but what program is used to make models i wanna try to make the walt disney and mickey statue for mainstreet

That is a great idea. And for modelling, I would suggest Blender. Find some tutorials on the net for it.

Side notes:
- tj and silents, enter our Steam group. Meanwhile, I will do small "team meetings" to decide important things.
- I am deciding if we will do parades and/or fireworks, since Main Street is the land where those things happen.

Some screenshots would be nice, maybe a video. Remember, people go under it, and its one of the entrances to the Railroad. Kinda like this:

Just thought I'd say that I've started on a very similar project except that I'm doing it on my own. The goal is high detail, precise proportion, and to capture the charm and ambiance of each land. Here's a thread that I started in the models section http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=792541. I have 21.2 GB of Walt Disney World audio and 2572 high-def reference/texture pictures taken personally that total 9.5 GB. I've begun Adventureland and, when that's finished, I REALLY want to do Frontierland(Specifically Splash Mountain.

Yes, I'm going all out. Most of the rides in the park aren't very complex in design (Splash Mountain and POTC could be physics based rides, Haunted Mansion can be easily placed on a track) So making them ride-able is definitely conceivable.

Edit: I've never been a fan of community maps\projects like this because of the inconsistency of models\textures\art style\etc.
But good luck on this

Just thought I'd say that I've started on a very similar project except that I'm doing it on my own. The goal is high detail, precise proportion, and to capture the charm and ambiance of each land. Here's a thread that I started in the models section http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=792541. I have 21.2 GB of Walt Disney World audio and 2572 high-def reference/texture pictures taken personally that total 9.5 GB. I've begun Adventureland and, when that's finished, I REALLY want to do Frontierland(Specifically Splash Mountain.
Sure, wouldn't you mind sharing some stuff with us...?
I mean, our project is having a great experience both singleplayer and multiplayer. And don't worry about the fact that its made by the community. We analyse and look at past projects from everyone who joins... If you are interested, your help will be much appreciated. Your project has a great potential, and we do believe that merging would give something really great. We are on Main Street right now, though.

I've got a fair amount of experience with audio composing, audio editing, video making and video editing so bascially the media sort of stuff and I can help with a promotional video if this gets very far, also I'm open to help beta test anything if it's needed.

You can either add me to the group or personally add me and I'll show you a few examples of my work.

My steam is Scorchtheflame

That would be fantasmic! We will decide about that on today's Team Meeting.

Alright, well I'm going to be out for an hour but when I get back I will be in for the rest of the evening so I should be easy to contact if you need me.
