The dog looks pretty rad imo:

Yep, that's a Japanese Akita for you. Japanese Akitas are very primitive dogs (i.e they are one of the breeds not far removed from the Grey Wolf) who the Samurai bred for fighting and as war dogs. In feudal Japan they quickly became a symbol of status, and only the ruling class of Japanese society were allowed to have them. Today, they're a symbol of strength and well being.
Much like German Shepherds, Akita's are dogs that live to work and (moreso than sherpherds, which is saying alot) are fiercely protective and loyal. As they were bred as fighting and war dogs, this breed does have a natural tenacity and aggression (many dog informationals will try to childlishly avoid this fact with workaround words) but most are suprisingly tolerant of family children. Due to the breed's tenacity and stubborness, it's important to concrete your Alpha male position early, as well as training early, as the breed's stubborness will be in full swing when it's an adult.
There are now two bloodlines of the Akita dog, The
Japanese Akita (pictured) and the
American Akita. American's tend to be less athletic looking and have more of square head. Purists will also state that the American bloodline is not a true Akita, and this is true. The American Bloodline was a result of crossbreeding during an almost extinction of the pure Japanese bloodline during WW2.
