THE AURORA CANNON
The destructive power of the combine - in your hands today!

Mostly created as a test of the OB Particles but developed into something better, the Aurora Cannon is a work in progress by Entoros. Current features include:
  • Four different primary fire modes:
    • Explosive (shockwave effect + splash damage) and
    • Shock (freeze target on hit)
    • Incendiary (burn baby burn)
    • Heal (help out your teammates, you maggot)
  • Epic explosion on secondary fire
  • Open the Combine Portal (and a really really big explosion)
  • Coolio effects from Half Life 2: Episode 2 for all attacks
  • Episode 2 sounds

Instructions

Primary - Fire current firemode
Primary + Use - Switch firemodes
Primary + Reload - Open the Combine Portal
Secondary - Create epic explosion

I certainly wish, but I was messing around with the built-in particles in Episode 2. It surprised me that nobody was using these yet.

Nice job managing to make it use info_particles.
Looks pretty, did you make the effects yourself?
Nops. The effects are from Valve's Orange Box (Ep2). :)

Really great weapon!
Everything works except for the secondary fire which gives me this lua error:

weapons\weapon_base\shared.lua:188: attempt to perform arithmetic on local 'num' (a nil value)

and I think that the combine portal should disappear after a while, since it will be there until map change..
or if you could make some sort of missile to close it (like in episode 2).

I have no clue why you'd get that error, since the weapon is not derived from weapon_base and neither shared has 188 lines. (can someone find me the source for weapon_base?)

As for the combine portal thing, I could probably do that. The initial idea was it was an epic explosion that blew up everything on the map so you'd probably be changing anyway, but I can put that in the second release.

Opening the portal is primary + reload.

*edit for detail* If you want to stop the errors on secondary fire, remove line 138 of lua/weapons/weapon_ioncannon/shared.lua: "self:TakePrimaryAmmo(self.Secondary.TakeAmmo) ;"

If you aren't getting any effects, you don't have Episode 2. Can't do anything about that.

It's not bad but it could be done to have better attacks.

They seem kind of simple right now, like they're just good looking attacks but without an actual attack if you get what i mean.

Well, what do you suggest? I tried to put effort into the attacks. Explode causes splash damage, shock causes your enemy to freeze for a short period of time, secondary makes a massive explosion, and the combine rift destroys everything on the map.

why not make it so that when you do the portal thing, it actually does the rt camera thing in the middle. like a real portal

the SWEP just blew my mind. :D

And I wanted to say the same thing as leiftiger.

Please,could you change,that the portal remains on the map?Except that,
the swep is already perfect :) Thanks for releasing it! :D

How about release a fix for the secondary fire? I'm rather lazy and don't feel like searching through code just to delete a line.

I can't find it. It isn't in my weapons tab.

Fixed it. I still get an error involving line 188 for secondary fire. I deleted the other line 138 already.

I believe it was gm_excess_waters. I just spent 10 minutes looking back through the Garry's Mod News Feed and I finally found it, posted on August 10th.

go to the lua folder, then in weapons, then open shared.lua press ctrl+f and paste the code in there. It will find it for you. delete the full line.

i do not understand when you tel us to delete line 138 of the lua file, the file can be stretched in different ways changing the number of lines, and do you mean lines in which there is nothing? or only lines with text, i am very confused about the matter, and I also don't understand why when you realized this bug, didn't create a fix, or re upload it. all i ask is a fix for the current release, thank you

garrysmod/garrysmod/addons/*wherever the folder of the aurora cannon is installed*/lua/weapons/shared.txt/

open shared.txt . Ignore whatever line it is in, but delete "self:TakePrimaryAmmo(self.Secondary.TakeAmmo) ;" just type it in the search of notepad and delete the line. It is not that hard.
