2.2 is out, download below
The sequel (finally) to my popular Cube gamemode (
http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=660361).
What the christ is Cube?
Here's the extended help text for the actual gamemode.
In Cube2, you take the role of a prisoner trapped within a massive maze known as the Cube. This maze is a large network of empty, cube-shaped rooms all connected together, all enclosed in a large shell (not touching the rooms themselves!). Your goal in Cube2 is to navigate this maze and reach the exit, which will be located on the shell.
The catch is however some of these rooms contain hidden death traps which will kill you instantly should you step into them. To detect these traps, you have two 'boot' SWEPs - the only things you have on your person heavy enough for a trap to detect it. Throwing a boot into a room will trigger the trap without killing you, so long as you do not step in the room. Be warned however, this will not disable the trap, so you will have to find another route. You can pick a boot, whether it be your own or someone else's, after it has been thrown by simply walking over it. Be warned however that the only way to safely detect a trap is to use the boot, therefore teamwork is essential to preserve your supply of them.
To assist you in working together, Cube2 has three quick voice commands built in. Simply type the word "help", "hi" or "over here" (all without quotes!) and your character will say the line.
Despite the teamwork required, Cube2 only has one possible winner. The victor is whoever manages to reach the exit in the lowest time possible after 15 minutes of gameplay, with a second and third place for others. The key is to trick and get those who you are with to die at the most convenient time in order to take the victory for yourself, though be wary - they may be planning to do the same thing to you!
Good luck, and enjoy playing!
What's different from Cube 1?- Fretta.
- Everything's cleaner, more efficient, better coded, and smoother.
- Cube shifts
- Gameplay
- "Creative" deaths (
)
- Cinematics
- More traps
Cube shifts?
Every 30-60 seconds or so, your cube moves, like in the film. You'll see different cubes surrounding yours, and be disoriented as fuck, and increases the difficulty level a large amount. No need for new maps.
Define gameplay.
Rather than an unclear, "get out"-esque goal, it's a race. Every time you reach the exit, you are reinserted into the cube. If you got a personal highscore, it's recorded. And finally, at the end of the 15-minute game, if you have the best time out of everyone, you win. So to summarize, your goal is to
escape the Cube. Also, you can push people.
Creative deaths.
Enjoy being burnt, gibbed, exploded, crushed, slashed, frozen, microwaved, electrified, dissolved and decapitated.

Changelog (2.2)
- Manhacks cannot get out of their room
- Fixed that trigger texture door thing (how did I not notice this before??)
- A ton of clientside gore. AKA, "how does this much blood fit in the human body and why is it not lagging me".
- Boots can trigger some previously untriggerable traps. As an example if you throw a boot into the microwave trap, in a few seconds it will burst into flames and blacken.
- Some traps have had delays added to them to add to the "oh shit" factor.
- Added time until you can use a voice command again.

- Most static data has been replaced by map data. This means that you can now make a map for Cube 2 - I'll post a tutorial and the .fgd later
- Added boot counter - similar to voice command countdown but on left side of screen in orange
- If another player sees you die, they will scream "oh no! he's dead!" or something like that
- Fixed microwave trap and freezer trap
- Completely redid the map from the original to fix some alignment errors. Also, the forest is back, may find some way to work it in (or not)
- 6.25 less NW vars transmitted on load
- Fixed Microwave and Freezer trap PP effects
- Freezer trap overlay and new freeze sound
- After saying a voice command, other people can see your name for five seconds - through walls. Extremely useful in trying to find someone.
