Overview

Alright, so anyone who has played Modern Warfare 2 knows that one of the best parts of the multiplayer is getting into an AC130 and blasting the living fuck out of the other team. That's what this gamemode is - the gunship team versus the entire server! Every round, someone gets to be the gunner. His goal is to rack up as many kills as he can and avoid getting shot down. Everyone else gets dumped into the defender team. They need to work together to construct and defend AA guns to shoot the gunship down.

Specifics

-The gunner(s?) will have access to a few different weapons and can switch between them as well as control zoom using only WASD. Right now the guns mimic the AC130 from MW2 (machine gun, cannon, really big cannon) but I might change them up later

-The ground forces can spawn blast-door prop walls and anti-air cannons. They can use the walls to make cover for themselves and to hide under-construction AA guns.

Right now it looks pretty junky, I've been saving all the effects and HUD stuff for last because I wanted to get a playable gamemode working first.


Here's a fort that took 5 seconds to make. It'll probably take less time to blow up


A bunch of bots seen from the air. Are they building something under there? Probably not, they're just bots

Shit to do
Before I stick this on someone's Fretta server I need to do a bunch of stuff

Gunner HUD - it'll have info on weapons reloading and stuff
Entity info panels - constructing progress, prop health, owner
Effects - I'm bad at this this might be a while
Sounds - you'll be able to hear combine radio chatter as the gunner, like in the youtube gun cam videos
Managing teams - this is broken as fuck
Limit spawner gun - mostly fixed already, I just need to change the range so you can't build in the sky or on the plane
Fix prop spawning - things spawn at weird angles
Gunship model - DougBailey's working on one for me, in the meantime I just stole one off of the military models thing
Mapping - fuck
Some balancing and tuning

Imho they should be relatively short rounds, so everyone gets a change to be a gunner.
I also think that there should only be one gunner unless the power of the guns is extremely reduced.

When i read title though I though... "shit dropping from the sky and you have to live...hm.."

This is just what i expected but i was surprised with an equally awesome idea.

Probably nothing that the survivors could hide under... People would camp the spot the whole game.

I would say a map with a few buildings for obstruction but that's just my opinion.

hello i am project lead i think the map should be similar to cs office lots of closed spaces no open ceilings basically make it impossible for the people on the ground to lose that way i can win every game

I'm thinking like a big flat courtyard in the middle of a city. The city would be inaccessible to the defender team, but it's there so the area around it doesn't look like butt to the gunner team.

Mostly for my own reference but I've added info panels to props and tweaked the prop spawning process. The gamemode is completely playable right now, next up is the gunner HUD and teams.

Maybe add some obstacles on a generally flat map, possibly with a couple of levels (ie half a story up, with wide stairs).

For example a school yard, with benches, or shipping yard, with (closed) containers.

maybe an 'infrared' mode would be fun. The map could be a park, with trees providing visual cover, but Infrared will reveal them and you can blast them apart through the foliage.
