That sounds incredibly epic. A damn troll from the underworld.
What's even more epic is that my woodcutter single-handedly killed both it, and a rampant cave crocodile without even getting a scratch.

Sooo... a troglodyte managed to get into my main stairway, now the walls are smeared with troglodyte blood...

    "A pool of troglodyte blood"

    And on the refuse pile:

    "Troglodyte mutilated corpse"

Pretty good, for a fortress without military...

God this game is sooo slow now.

    I have a constant 30 FPS :argh:
Lower the resolution. I tried playing at 1600x900 and it runs like shit, but at 800x600 it's perfect. I expect this will go away when the d# merge happens.

The last survivor of the ogre attack killed the ogre with the last bit of strength he had. He became a legend right before he died.

Umm, a question. What do I have to do to construct a farmplot. In the old version you could just place a farm outside, inside if it had earth. Is it something I have to do before making a farm?

Just dig deep and explore the caverns you uncover. Also, remember that with lava comes more dangerous creatures.

Now you have to build a Farm Plot on muddy ground. You can do this by irrigating or building one in an underground cavern. I recommend irrigation because building it in a cavern leaves it vulnerable to attacks.

My dwarves got rocked (literally) very early on by a cave-in. I really would have liked to know beforehand that that would happen. :( Maybe it should be gigantic text in the OP, or even in the title of the next thread. Then again, it is surely more "fun" for people to learn about it themselves.

The fucked-up part about it is that the area I dug out sat there just fine with no problems for a long while, but then it just suddenly collapsed when 3 dwarves and a cat decided to go in there to sleep.

All tragedy aside, the cave-in effect was really cool looking.

Well, first fortress has been fucked over by a nightwing, it made me wince a little when I was reading injuries, I had a stoneworker who had both his eyes broken open, I'm guessing he means they got squished while still in his face.

There are new, empty DF2010 pages that nobody has written on yet. So the wiki will not be abandoned, but it will take a few weeks before it becomes useful again (unless Toady decides to add info to it himself).

Embarked on a frozen hell of a mountain. No plants (save for some trees) and hardly any wildlife here. Going to have to make a living by trading rock crafts and such. Happily, I've found a bunch of materials for making shiny things with and it is my intention to find coal and get some forge work done. Failing that, the wood outside is going to become charcoal to feed the furnaces.

Failing that, I'll delve deep and see if I can find any fun things to attempt to kill, butcher, and eat. Also, a reliable water source needs to be found.

Edit: oh wow, I just found a mushroom forest underground. Looks like we're in luck, it doesn't seem to be inhabited... plenty of arable farmground here too. Plenty of delicious plump helmets, among other fungi.

Edit2: It has a river too! Double score!

Well if you have Ice on the surface, just dig deep for the magma and melt the ice to get some water. Might be a bit hard early on though.

Just flood the part you want to grow something. 1/7 layer water is enough.

    Kinda unsophisticated, but it works.
