Can someone explain what I would alter to make mountains taller/larger in Custom Maps? Or, perhaps, to put Inactive Volcanoes at the edges of the mountain ranges, rather then in the center?
I'm getting pretty annoyed by the training trainee bug, where one stands in the barracks waiting and the other stands in his room with the job description "Going to doging demonstration". As soon as the waiting dwarf goes to get food or something, the other one immediately rushes to the barracks and waits for the instructor to come back.
Is this a problem with my minimum number of dwarfs training being set on 1?
In order for my dwarves to train I have to set all of the military stuff to inactive.
hmm... Well, I set it back to two and its working now, I am a little concerned about how long this demonstration is going to be going on for, it seems that my leader is getting unhappy. I appointed a third to the military (I'm just getting the feel for everything) and hopefully that will take care of the two practicing forever.

My miner has been bed-ridden for the past three years due to a tragic self-inflicted channeling accident. If only I had gypsum for plaster making, then poor little Zasit could walk again.
And now a Hoary Marmot somehow killed one of my hunting dogs.
Make that 2 dogs and one unharmed marmot.
Gah, I hate the new channeling. Toady did it to prevent instant siege-blocking channels, but honestly it only takes a few more seconds to remove the ramps, or build a wall segment or something instead.
Now it leaves tons of little ramps everywhere, and you can't remove them if when they're submerged. That, and dwarves are constantly hurting themselves and dying from channeling out under themselves. I lost 3 miners just from channeling out tubes for wells, which wouldn't have happened with the old system.
How do I order my people to kill the marmot? It keeps disrupting my people and it can't escape my fort.
The Marmot just maimed one of my dwarven children. Shit just got real.

I'm new to this game, and while my miners were clearing out tunnels, there were claystones left everywhere. What do I do to clean them up?
Useable stone is a natural leftover of digging through rock. Turn it into some nice furniture or make some crafts. You can also mark the stones for mass-dumping and put them all in a single-tile-wide dump zone, then mass-reclaim it later.
Oh god, my fortress is on a glacier and a elven caravan just came. I haven't built a trade depot yet, so he just waits on the edge of the map. Then, out of fucking nowhere a polar bear drinks all their booze.
There's about three screens just filled with that.
How do I mass-reclaim stuff?
Also the channeling is just stupid, if someone wants to make an impenetrable fortress he can dig inside a mountain and wall off all exits. Not hard.
