I've struck HFS but my miners refuse to mine down any further.
Theres no magma in the way whatsoever and I'm nowhere near hell.

tl;dr I can't mine down the tube anymore

No, that'd be stupid. You just think you know how mining works, you think they're just stabbing randomly at the metal going DERP DERP BREAK DOWN WALL when mining is actually more than that.

Nah, I dug out some adamantine just fine, they just won't dig deeper.
Infact they won't even mine out adamantine from that very z-level.

Yay. As if having "masterfully designed image of devil of fire" as my civilization symbol wasn't suspicious enough, my local government symbol is "a well-designed image of a dung beetle demon"...I've also noticed that there's one or two carvings of a five pointed star...!!

Not sure how specks of adamantine scattered in dirt act as a barrier between hell and the earth

It's actually woven into the rock, hence Adamantine strands.

I believe it has anti-Demon properties, much like Silver has anti-bacterial properties.

We're talking about fantasy creatures in a fantasy world...is it so hard to believe that, for example, the specks of adamantine have some kind of repelling power towards the demons or something?

I really don't care why or how it works. It's just there to add more fun.

Can Goblins die of dehydration/loss of blood/pain?

Seems my pit wasn't quite deep enough to kill some of them, so now they're just wandering around down there with broken limbs.

Goblins love magma, you should pour some into the pit.

You should dump some water or magma down there before they start spamming pathing errors, they can't die from thirst/hunger.

Water won't work. They will just swim if there's no roof, and as it's a pit, there isn't.

goblins don't swim, I recall a goblin riding a cave crocodile which happily jumped into water and the goblin drowned

I'd love to pour down some magma, but unfortunately I haven't found any yet.

Ah well, they died of blood loss anyway, so I got the opportunity to dig the pit a few levels deeper.

A small question though, is blood bugged or something? Seems my meeting areas are completely covered in goblin blood now. I'm guessing it's because my dwarves have walked in it or something, and then headed off to have a party.

No blood isn't bugged, it's just incomplete. At the moment blood stains walls, which is kind of realistic but with no way of washing it off

I've decided to set up in the most inhospitable part of my world: The arctic. Maybe it's the result of poor planning, but I have no seeds for either type of farming, the river is frozen over which rules out fishing, and only the occasional groundhog roams this wasteland.

I have dwindling supplies of food and have little protection from the elements other than a hole dug vertically down several floors for my people to hide in. I fear this may be the end of this godforsaken outpost.

Good god! The snow has melted revealing a fertile field, damn my lack of seeds.

Can plants from the underground caverns sprout in any underground soil, or do I have to irrigate?

I ask because I could've sworn it sprouted in my barracks on the last fort I made, and I do believe that I didn't irrigate that.

I dug 150 levels but abandoned the fortress after I realized I missed the magma sea by like 5 tiles.
