Black usually has shrieks. Death is almost exclusively growls.

Also, Dimmu Borgir are symphonic black metal, which is like melodic death metal.

Can't really say I "dig" either of them. They're both pretty good, but, nothing really that extraordinary to me. The Amorphis song is interesting, seeing as its the first Amorphis song I've listened to. The Arch Enemy song was okay, though definitely not one of their best. I'll end up checking out the album, but it's not something I'd ever hold my breath for.

Immortal's straight up black metal really, although yeah they definitely have a more melodic and not as raw sound than other bands like Mayhem, Gorgoroth etc

Probably the best from their scene.

I've been lurking this thread for a while and made some nice finds. Thought I would contribute as well. If you liked the Gates of Ishtar's song, I'd recommend giving a listen to Tears, Where The Winds of Darkness Blow and The Nightfall by them.

By the way, could you recommend me something similar to the older In Flames? I especially liked The Jester Race, The Jester's Dance, Dead Eternity, Worlds Within the Margin and Episode 666 by them. There are a few others as well, but these are my favourites.
