Edit: Actually, that place in Anticitizen One where you break the wooden board and a bunch of dead headcrabs fall down was pretty weird. Oh and the Gman TV as mentioned earlier. Plus some of the un-used music was really strange, some of it was along the same lines as the one that played during the Gman TV part, filled with discordant pianos and creaking sounds and other weird shit.
    Links to unused music please?

Fasties aren't scary, just annoying, I look at them as the noob enemy of HL2, I even game them an alternate name, Fagsties
    That blows, how about faggies.

It's the Consul. Basically, he was a character in the Half Life 2 beta who served more-less the same purpose as Breen does in the released version.

Wrong. That's Barney from pre-release HL2. Looks like some kind of creepy hologram or something. Regardless, it was cut from the final game. You can see a resemblance to Barney if you look at it.

If you have the game, you should be able to rip them out yourself using GCFScape. S'what I do.

The Consul was way cooler than Breen.

I recently ordered a copy of Half-Life 2 Raising the Bar, and I've pretty much read through all of it. If they had included the Cremator in Half-Life 2 and extended the initial exploration of City 17 (not just get out of the trainstation, across the roof, at to kleiner's lab) and included some scene with the Cremator while walking through the city, it would have been so much darker and creepier.

Also, I liked a lot of the stuff from the HL2 beta and stuff that were cut. There's a tiny little drawing in the book with the initial plot overview, where you go through City 17, to AirEx, across an ocean (on the Borealis, with Odessa) to the wasteland, and fly back to the citadel. Most of that was cut. Oh well...

But after reading this thread, Half-Life 2 definitely seems to have a darker edge to it. It wasn't so visible when I was speed-running it at a LAN party, but damn Valve is awesome for being able to pack an entire world, and details about it's history into a single video game.

I really want to see EP3 embrace that somewhat subtle, almost masked darkness in Half-Life 2 and turn it into a truly chilling game.

How is this related to "Mind fuckery in Valve games"

    Edited:

HL2 Entering ravenholm ... hearing fast zombies ... quickly reloading shotgun and getting ready ...
HL2 EP1 Dark tunnels ... waiting for an elevator ... flashlight turns off ... *Zombine sounds*
HL2 EP2 Part when hunter shows up on window just for couple seconds ... enought to maka me piss my pants.
You get the shotgun 1/2 through Ravenholm, not as you enter.

If you toss in a grenade, it throws it back. Lightens the mood a little when your number one tactic for killing things in hidey holes goes right out the window.
Reminds me in half life 1, when I was young I remember there being a scientist in a dumpster, I threw a grenade in the crack and for 3 seconds he freaked out, then it exploded and the lid fell down, then it got real quiet... :(

Fight your fear, and abuse the game mechanics for free health! (Aka, get hit by a poison headcrab while there's no other enemies around, then let your anti-toxins provided by the HEV Suit give you free health)

One thing that kind of un-nerves me in HL2, is the fact that the metrocops have little to no brainwashing or transhuman implants. They're normal folks of undeterminable gender, race, ethnicity, and etc. that merely caved in to the combine to have some semblance of a better life than the shitty crap citizens go through. They might enjoy beating and killing a little too much, but would you honestly attempt to be morally right when one wrong move will get you made into a stalker? Take into account that scanners are everywhere and, allegedly, Overwatch and such can tell what your location is and easily find you on a whim if you go traitor or such.

And the average Gordon player kills every single one of them.
I like to shoot them in the legs so I can pretend they're still alive.

Of course, they're still laying in agony in some dark, dirty tunnel somewhere, bleeding out their last as they lay only with their fellow soon-to-be-dead friends and coworkers.

    If i may backtrack alittle,

Im pretty sure fastzombies anatomically work by the headcrab sucking it dry of nutrients, then when the victim is rid of any unnecessary weight, its used to hunt down new victims.

It doesn't sound human. Perhaps it comes from the Headcrab and some part of it's connection with the human amplifies it.
