That stock looks very uncomfortable.
Looks like a grip, so you can use it as a melee weapon aswell.

Unfortunately, turning any AR-15 platform rifle into an assault pistol requires leaving the giant buffer tube sticking out the back. With AEGs you could probably just leave it off but the rear wouldn't be analogous to the real thing.
Kel-tec designed a 5.56 pistol (named the PLR-16) to satisfy the market for people who wanted the .223 round in a shorter, more versatile weapon.

That's one of EOD's main tools though. Back when I was in the enlistment process for the Army, I was going for EOD. They told me the .50 Barrett is actually more of a tool for them. If an IED is too unstable to move, or even touch, they'll pull back to a safe distance, zero in on the IED and detonate it by shooting it.It's just like Halo.
