Why is a modernized AK an abomination? You guys gotta realize that the AK isn't going to be around forever, let alone be a modernized weapon.
The AK is just adapting to todays modernized battlefield. If anything, the AK evolving from it's current state would be a good thing in my eyes.

But it sure isn't pretty.

It's a tool of war. When is war pretty? And if you judge a gun more by looks, rather than functionality, then you may have to reconsider things. I'm not saying you personally of course, I mean people as a whole.

Pretty and practical aren't always hand in hand. That being said, it's really nice when they are.

No, of course not. Just saying that that E1 gun is too.. practical. It's so practical it's tacticlol. I've seen the Russian military mount EOTechs and Aimpoints on their PKM's and AK's, and I'm okay with that.
But in airsoft, there's a line that I'm not willing to cross, especially with AK's. That E1 gun is so far across that line, that you wouldn't even be able to see the line, even if it wasn't a metaphorical line.
Plus, practicality can still be sexy.

I never really got that either. "Tacticlol". What characteristics define a gun as being tacticlol? In the AK pictured above, it looks like it has a reflex sight and a handgrip. Or does it already having rails and a tactical stock make it lol-worthy already? See, that's where a line is with me. No gun is really tacticlol to me. It's fitted for the combat situation. If I put a PEQ box on my gun, with an ACOG, and an M203, and it's tacticlol, then so be it. I rather have the tools necessary than to realize my weapon loadout doesn't have the functionality I want when I'm in the middle of a firefight.

You're not getting the point. This ideology of "pure" AKs applies strictly to airsoft. We've already gone over how it's fine for people in the real world to railrape their gun, as they genuinely need that stuff. We don't, generally. Airsofters can afford to prefer pretty over practical, it's a choice really.

In the real world you don't want to sacrifice that functionality, but airsofters can. My point remains valid as well.

It's down to opinion, of course. I just honestly don't think you'd need that many rails, or that awkward-ass looking pistol grip. The "tactical" stock I can understand.
Simply put, it just looks dumb as hell to me. If I wanted practical, I'd replace the handguard on my AKM with an AIMS one, and mount a Kobra sight. I'm super comfy with the regular pistol grip and solid stock, so dat's cool with me. It's still practical, and sexy!
Also, maybe it's just the fact that I'm just tired of seeing rails on every gun ever.
Practicality just doesn't play as much of a role in airsoft as it does with real world firefights.

The thing with AKs for me is when you have unused rails. When they're just sitting there, never to be used. Like, all I need for an AK, if I must put something on it, is some nice reddot or scope, and maybe an ergo-grip.
