That's not computer illiterate people who THINK they know things, 95% of people won't be able to recognize that part.
At the lower end, Prebuilts are usually cheaper. Companies pay money so that their software ends up on Dell PCs, which allows them to make them cheaper. Their components and the copy of Windows will usually be bought in bulk, again lowering the cost.
The cheapest I could get a full computer with mouse, monitor, keyboard and speakers was £250... Running Ubuntu Netbook remix (Was for a new computer user)
AMD Sempron 140 2.1Ghz (Uses the same core and the Athlon 440, just a locked core)
2GB DDR3 Corsair RAM
250GB HDD, Caviar blue.
Usual DVD Burner
16" 1366x768 Monitor
Onboard Geforce 6250e Graphics
Mouse & Keyboard
3W RMS Just-Enough speakers
Slim case
Built it myself simply because I struggled to find anything beyond old celerons or atom based computers for £250.
Prebuilts have their place, people need to stop mocking them because not everyone has the time or expertise to do it. and some people just like having a single, simple, warranty.

Why would norton antivirus protect a chicken from a rockband?
He's not the one in fault here, you are. You're douchbagging him instead of congratulating him on his new computer.
"How do you connect your harddrive to your motherboard" - Who the cock cares, he just spent his life savings on something to his eyes truthly epic and you're not even going to say congratulations.
GG.
OK sorry, i seem to have went a little overboard there. Time to see if i can go change that post into something else. lesson learned, I'm gonna congratulate him tomorrow, Although, i still think 12 gigs is a little overboard if he is not rendering anything.
EDIT: Just to let you know, he has been pulling pranks on me since the 5th grade, so i use alot of scepticism around him, if i see this computer, in fully functioning order, i will congratulate him properly.
I don't think he actually bought the computer if he doesn't even know how to put ram in a mobo....
he didn't even know how much it cost, he is right for thinking he's lying
Edited:
and you said epic

you forgot your dumb emote
People in this thread are forgetting that content should not be created, but rather fallen upon.
Someone just spent £25,000 on a mac book pro? Post it, but don't start pointing out it's flaws and what not, as you're not only hurting people's feelings, but making the average IT-literate guy look like a complete elitist asshole.
Edited:
And you're stating the obvious, while once again not contributing nor being helpful.
Have a cookie, Odellus, for being such a great help to the Hardware and Software section.

WOAH WOAH lets all calm down take a nice sip of tea
So what?
You don't need to be coy, Roy.
Edit:
Sorry, I just had to![]()
Norton lets Dokken (the viruses) destroy the chicken (Hard drive) anyway.
Coincidence? YES. YES. YES.
i contributed, what are you some kind of whistle blower? I'll post in any way I see fit
Today I was talking to a few friends of mine. They said that you can mod a computer to play Xbox 360 games and that you can mod a PS2 to play X360 games.
I doubt they were telling the truth. My efforts to explain how it's not possible went unnoticed.
Is possible, but you'd have to replace tons of hardware
Even for the PS2? Really?
yeah theoretically you could do it, but it would pretty much be an Xbox 360 in a PS2 case
If only it could fit.
Xbox 360 slim![]()
you mean this fella?
:V
Well you could... Casemod? Just put the 360 hardware in a phat ps2 case.
Why would you even want to do that? The PS2 is ugly as shit comparing to the 360
Oh wow, more alienware and double-the-amount-of-X,-double-the-power discussions. The people who say these things need to at least be tried to be told what does what.
Also, I like my two OSs. Windows ME and XP :buddy:
Why do you even have Windows ME installed?
I used to have XP, Vista and Ubuntu. Wiping it and hackinthosing.
Windows ME is nothing compared to Windows 3.1, it's the shit.

Say hello to software incompatibility and stupid file manager with no "Merge Flders" function.
I never said you would want to, Just saying you could, More or less.
It is obvious your mom did not spank you enough.
I have content!
So i just got back from school.
My school has recentley become an academy. i kinda dislike the uniform.
I had i.t(or computer class). the computers had win7 (before this change the computers were xp).
i was all "you win some you lose some!".
i was wrong... Right click is disabled :smithicide:
Fucking HATE when they do that.
Also, on my old school they had set the screen resolution to 800x600. I normally just right clicked to change the res to something bit higher, but one day they decided to fuck the system up and disable right click. Browsing the web with ie6 is a pain in the ass. Now imagine it in a low ass resolution where horizontal scrolling is on every site imaginable.
Now, the most stupid thing about the whole thing was this:
You couldn't fullscreen ie for some reason. I asked the teacher why, and he said: "It's for security purposes" and I was all like :wtc:
Why must every school make it a pain to use their computers?
It's to make people more computer illiterate by not showing them what is possible.
BTW, has anyone tried pressing the unused key for context menu when right click is disabled? It could work though.
It depends on how the schools have disabled right click.....It didn't work on my school though
Yes. i use a cat6 cable though.
In I.t I was moved from my normal seat next to some others, The first day there I heard the guy next to me say he was planning on buying photoshop. I asked why with the slightest amount of hope that he actually does some good Photoshopping and art, instead I see he wants it do more of this:
Edit: Eek how does one thumb tag again.
[Img_thumb] [ /Img_thumb]
If my school decides to do that (probably not) I'd refuse using the computers
