    Content!

I have a sawn-in-two SDRAM stick attached to my flash drives, and I went around asking people what it was.

    Me: What's this?
    "A circut board?"
    "A computer chip"
    "Part of a motherboard"
    "A cpu, it looks cpuish"
    "It's a tech thingy"

    And my personal favorite:

    "It's a gigabyte!"
I had to turn around and snicker uncontrollably. The following ensued:
Him: Oh, you think that's funny?
I proceed to tell him what a gigabyte is.
Him: Oh yeah, I have 7 of them.
It was all I could do to not burst out laughing.
That's not computer illiterate people who THINK they know things, 95% of people won't be able to recognize that part.

My mom thinks it's a good idea to buy a Pre-Built, but me and my cousin are convincing her to let us build it for her. He's 21ish by the way.
At the lower end, Prebuilts are usually cheaper. Companies pay money so that their software ends up on Dell PCs, which allows them to make them cheaper. Their components and the copy of Windows will usually be bought in bulk, again lowering the cost.

The cheapest I could get a full computer with mouse, monitor, keyboard and speakers was £250... Running Ubuntu Netbook remix (Was for a new computer user)

AMD Sempron 140 2.1Ghz (Uses the same core and the Athlon 440, just a locked core)
    2GB DDR3 Corsair RAM
    250GB HDD, Caviar blue.
    Usual DVD Burner
    16" 1366x768 Monitor
    Onboard Geforce 6250e Graphics
    Mouse & Keyboard
    3W RMS Just-Enough speakers
    Slim case

Built it myself simply because I struggled to find anything beyond old celerons or atom based computers for £250.

Prebuilts have their place, people need to stop mocking them because not everyone has the time or expertise to do it. and some people just like having a single, simple, warranty.

I was talking to this "friend" the other day and the following conversation ensued about this computer he apparently custom-built

Him: "Hey i got a new PC!"
Me: (slightly intrugied) "Cool, What processor you got?"
Him: "A Intel i7-930" and goes all :smug: like
Me: "Sure. How much ram you got?"
    Him:" 12 Gigs :smug:"
Me: "Okay.." (Now at this time i thought he was joking so i was gonna ask him some questions that only someone who had built a PC would know, or has done a upgrade) "Soo, How do you insert the ram on your motherboard?"
Him: "You screw it shut "
Me: (now facepalming inside my head) " Okaay, How much did this 'magic' build cost? "
    Him: Classified
Me: "Okaaay, How do you connect you harddrive to your motherboard then?"
Him: "You take a wire an-"
Me: "You mean a cable, right?" (right now im laughing inside my head)
    Him: "Yeah!"
Me: Well i gotta go, Cya

At the end of the day, he told me his cousin was building it and still keeping his :smug:face
He's not the one in fault here, you are. You're douchbagging him instead of congratulating him on his new computer.

"How do you connect your harddrive to your motherboard" - Who the cock cares, he just spent his life savings on something to his eyes truthly epic and you're not even going to say congratulations.

    GG.

OK sorry, i seem to have went a little overboard there. Time to see if i can go change that post into something else. lesson learned, I'm gonna congratulate him tomorrow, Although, i still think 12 gigs is a little overboard if he is not rendering anything.

EDIT: Just to let you know, he has been pulling pranks on me since the 5th grade, so i use alot of scepticism around him, if i see this computer, in fully functioning order, i will congratulate him properly.

People in this thread are forgetting that content should not be created, but rather fallen upon.

Someone just spent £25,000 on a mac book pro? Post it, but don't start pointing out it's flaws and what not, as you're not only hurting people's feelings, but making the average IT-literate guy look like a complete elitist asshole.

Norton lets Dokken (the viruses) destroy the chicken (Hard drive) anyway.

Today I was talking to a few friends of mine. They said that you can mod a computer to play Xbox 360 games and that you can mod a PS2 to play X360 games.

I doubt they were telling the truth. My efforts to explain how it's not possible went unnoticed.

Literally just happened, I was sitting in class and heard this conversation in the table in front of me..

"My super computer can run anything with no lag man, no lag!"
    "Is it an alienware?"
"No it's a custom built super computer"
    "Is it an alienware?"
    "No"
"Then it's not good, alienware is the best~ it's so expensive~"
"Dude mine is custom built it has two operating systems and unix, if you run both windows sevens, they're 64 bit, at the same time it'll run super fast"
    "Haha unix"
"if you stick your hand in it, it would freeze"
    etc.

the conversation is so fucking dumb.

    HNGNGGGG
Oh wow, more alienware and double-the-amount-of-X,-double-the-power discussions. The people who say these things need to at least be tried to be told what does what.

Fucking HATE when they do that.

Also, on my old school they had set the screen resolution to 800x600. I normally just right clicked to change the res to something bit higher, but one day they decided to fuck the system up and disable right click. Browsing the web with ie6 is a pain in the ass. Now imagine it in a low ass resolution where horizontal scrolling is on every site imaginable.

Now, the most stupid thing about the whole thing was this:

You couldn't fullscreen ie for some reason. I asked the teacher why, and he said: "It's for security purposes" and I was all like :wtc:

Why must every school make it a pain to use their computers?

It's to make people more computer illiterate by not showing them what is possible.

BTW, has anyone tried pressing the unused key for context menu when right click is disabled? It could work though.
