So greenpoison will work on the 4.1 firmware for ipod touch right? I just want to double check before I update.

Yup. Greenpois0n is the 4.1 (and soon 4.2) jailbreak method.

I believe 4.1 addresses speed issues on the iPhone 3G, but it's still fairly slow on iPhone 3G/IpT 2G (3G and 4G are fine).

I jailbroke my 4.1 ipod touch with greenpoison and it went marvelously.

Yes, running 4.1

The idea is that greenpois0n will ALWAYS jailbreak the iPod Touch 4G, regardless of firmware.

Ok, found an alternate download of Limera1n, it says it works, but the icon on the ipod itself is blank white, and it tells me to check my internet connection, when it works. Any ideas? I'm going to try greenpois0n again quickly now

edit - Greenpois0n decided to work this time... I think. It's on the black and white screen with all the text. We'll see... IT WORKED!

If I update to 4.1/4.2, I'll lose all of my third party apps I got from Cydia right? Because I don't feel like it's worth the fuss to re-jailbreak it if I will, 3.1.2 works great for me...

And is the new firmware even better in any way?

Use the restore feature on iTunes if all else fails.

You can't restore it in itunes if your device is not properly detected.

You need to put your device into DFU mode first

Jailbreak Dev Team untethered mode only works for iPhone 3G (with the old bootrom), iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G (models non-MC). Users of all other devices will be able to unlock the device, but it's tethered.

So apparently redsn0w works...I'm not risking my iPhone 4 on it though.

Cydia works on it. On the other hand, jailbreaking fails on my iPod touch 3rd gen, 4.2.1. It gives me an "unexpected error" after entering into DFU mode.

Well, I have a touch 3G and whenever i try jailbreaking it with redsn0w it crashes and the iPod gets stuck in DFU until I restart it.
