tip - complete the jailbreak and leave the downloading of tweaks for tomorrow. cydia servers are getting raped and adding sources as well as downloading tweaks are timing out and lagging, you are better off doing it tomorrow

Also a few questions of my own.

When I try to connect to my iPhone via open SSH (already installed on the iPhone) using WinSCP I just get a connection refused error. I've got the correct username (root) and password (alpine). yet it refuses to connect, any idea why?

Also when I try to install themes (with Winterboard) it only changes the background, the icons and everything else remains at stock.

Depends, if you have important data you wish to keep then restore from your backup.

If you don't really care what happens to your data, then do it as a new ipod touch.

Oh great, Winterboard has some kind of conflict and won't install. I know that Cydia is going slow right now but Winterboard just won't install due to that.

So of course after 4 hours i finally get the jailbreak to work, then it tells me that i have to do the "just boot for now" shit. So i do that and lo and behold, the piece of shit crashes.

Oh scrap that then, last time I remember installing five icon dock I was on iOS4 so I'm not sure why it requires iOS3 now. I don't see anything saying iOS3 on the cydia page either.

I clicked install and it says there are dependencies or conflicts that cannot be automatically found or fixed.
It says "Depends" and after it "iOS Firmware < 3.0"

That have absolutely nothing to do with Siri. Just google Siri proxy, this is something that no way would Apple even consider adding to the stock iOS.

Anyone else having any problems like this?

Happening to me too. I have a feeling it's because I haven't been able to upgrade my essentials, which I suppose might be caused by the huge load on all the stock repos.

Saw that a 5.0.1 untethered was out so I finally updated my iPod Touch 3g (from 3.1.3, I'm stubborn as fuck), the only thing I don't like is I can't find a setting to turn off the always-run-every-program-in-the-background thingy

If you run an app and then close out of it, it will stay in the little tray that shows up (I don't know the terminology, I feel like an old person) when you double tap the home button until you physically delete it from there, which I assume uses up battery life

in other words you want a tweak that one click or one press, removes all backgrouded apps right?
i tried the remove background tweak, its a 1 click tweak that removes all apps in the multitasking bar at 1 shot, but it crashes on ios 5.

instead, i use multicleaner.
multicleaner->advanced settings ->turn on "start in edit mode"
the rest you can experiment to your likings, but this means that you can just delete them much faster, try it and you'll see.

It's perfectly fine, it's in a normal, untethered, jailbroken state.

you need to ssh for? because there are programs that does the same thing as ssh but is a lot simpler and easier.

I was wanting to transfer stuff via SSH but I don't need to now as around an hour ago (when I posted the thing) I downloaded iPhone Explorer and transferred the stuff via that.

use ifunbox, best. or through ifile's web server.(cick on wifi icon in the app). these make it simpler too

Or just have it so, by default, when I press the home button in an app, it actually ends the app's process instead of continuing to run the app in the background.

Secondly the only program I managed to connect via SSH is CyberDuck.
