Before I start, I'd like to point out that this gamemode will feature one big server, that has both PvE and PvP elements in it. The gamemode will NEVER despite of whatever measurements you are using, ever have two servers, where one of them will be PvE online and the other PvP. It is simply stupid and will never occur no matter your arguments, so don't bother trying to convince me.
Secondly, this is a private gamemode meant for a single server, so the gamemode will not be released for the public to download and "play on singleplayer" and then try to suggest making backdoors to prevent people from hosting it on their own servers. Don't bother suggesting this either, because I will not do it ever.
Devinity 2 is the sequel to Devinity and Sunrise, back in 2009 - 2010. Initially, this particular gamemode was remade several times in order to fix the several problems during the GMod 13 beta period. During that period there were a huge amount of experimental coding done in order to make as much use of the limits as possible, such as finding out how to make a map big enough for all players to fly around in and how to avoid that annoying skybox you may hit while warping. Those experiments lasted for months and finally, around the release of GMod 13, there was a breakthrough and the development speed up. Devinity 2 is now the most advanced gamemode ever made by The Maw, with some heavy coding and a good cup of coffee, the gamemode has been tested and tested over and over again to make absolutely sure that it works.
Now during the development the reason for all this serious testing and developing was because of the reputation we had. We had the reputation of leaving gamemodes behind and things were never really finished and that is why we decided to do a comeback with this gamemode. A massive gamemode optimized to work for even the slowest machines. (By that we mean PCs that can run Minecraft at least.).
In 2011 the planning process began and we rolled over some old footage of Sunrise and Devinity 1 and thought of the good old days 2 years earlier and we thought we should plug in some of those brilliant classic features from Sunrise and put it into Devinity 2. For example steering the ship with your mouse, mining and pirating. One particular feature has been in question for some time. DRONES. Since the development of Sunrise there has been a lot of requests reguarding drones and the truth is there has actually been drones from the beginning and the same story applies with planets. Although the massive edits and continuous adds meant that it was removed at some point and it was lost forever.
Luckily we added it back in Devinity 2 with some tremendous updates and some higher graphical improvements. We also wanted the gamemode to use PURELY Devinity 2 models so that means you don't have to buy a game in order to see objects in space. They are all a part of the Devinity 2 content, which means any player who owns JUST Garrysmod can play this gamemode without having any missing contents. Some critics say that this may have an impact on download time and we have of course thought about it. We are only adding the resources that we need and additionally we will be releasing a content pack containing all the resources needed for the server.
In 2012 the gamemode suffered some losses during the gmod 13 beta, because Garry did mayor changes to the game and therefor meant rethinking our gamemode to work with the new GMod, so back to the drawing board.
Late 2012 it hit us and we were finally able to display some results to the gamemode to the general public. Some footage such as a massive mapping system, meaning you could go on for eternity from one end to another. It's almost like there are no ends and in early 2013 we started inviting people in for testing. Donators and veteran Sunrise players got to play first and since then we have been adjusting the gameplay to suit their needs. We also optimized the gamemode to have an excellent performance further, so that players would get a much smoother gameplay.
In the end, the gamemode features a lot of ideas and stuff we planned out years ago and they are no longer a dream, but a future for this gamemode.

The gamemode does not benefit the donators in a way, that will affect their ships performance, but instead will receive other stuff like music streaming and youtube movie projection (in the future).
