Maybe when it first came out it was 7.6 GB, but after patching it and everything the size was higher?

TF2 uses more than Steam says it does. :geno:

Over 100 Dota 2 servers added.
With the modding aspirations of Valve's fanbase, how long do you think it'd be before we see maps based off of Valve games, or even Dota 2 modifications that replace certain enemies and characters with ones from Valve franchises?
I for one would be rather interested in playing as Gordon or Tavish or Louis, or fighting against Antlions and Sentries and Boomers.
With Valve's fanbase and the dedicated modders there, we're bound to see custom Dota 2 servers playing "Defense of the Fortress" or "League of Survivors" or "Heroes of City 17" within a year at the latest.
Beta Coming soon then.
I doubt Dota 2 will be moddable like Half-Life 2. We'll be able to make maps, and that's about it. The heroes and game modes will be hard coded, and we'll have those to use in maps we make.
Valve is using Squirrel scripts in their latest games, pretty sure it is be used to define champions.
Hmm, that would be interesting if that public leak was right, and public beta started in August.
I really hope so.
They used squirrel scripts to define level transitions in Portal 2, and mutations to console variables in Left 4 Dead 2. Something on the level of new characters to play as is not something, performance-wise, you could do with a squirrel script.
Even so, you forget that some modders are surprisingly resourceful. For example, Mecha's been working on stuff like Advanced Weaponiser and Parkour Fortress, and those are some interesting and kinda sophisticated mods from what i've seen.
By the way MechaBowser (yes i'm calling you out), if modding Dota 2 were possible, would you do it and if so what would you work on?
I would love to play Defense of the Fortress.
Squirrel is much much more powerfull than you think. It is as powerfull (if not more) as Lua.
And a lot of thing can be done in lua with the Gmod, so dota heroes in squirrel would'nt surprise me.
The only problem i'm seeing is that you could edit the scripts so it would require to transmit the server's version of the files to the client each time you play (which is already the cas with some files in source).
Me too, and so would quite a few other people.
Yes but those are server-side plugins, they have nowhere near the flexibility and possibility of real mods.
Of course we will not be able to do Total conversions but it will be possible to tweak the game as much as other games.
(Valve only gives the source code for mods for the Half Life series. So modders will have to wait EP3 to make TCs)
"real mods"
So... I'm right then?
Was exactly "10000MB" when I installed it on launch
Possibly, but they should be able to update Steam's info or Steam should re-check file sizes on each update.
Ever heard of GMod Tower? It was like an entirely new game within garry's mod. Like a little chat community place where you can also play monkey ball or have gunfights on separate maps but technically you were still in the server. Customizable costumes, hotel room suites with purchaseable and movable furniture, trophies, achievements, jetpacks, youtube videos synched so all of the players can watch videos together in the theatre.
If that's possible, I have no doubt in my mind that Defense of the Fortress or something similar is possible.
If this ends up F2P I'm probably going to pick this up over LoL
just seems like Valve would do a better job of balancing than Riot
TBH I thought the exact opposite when I heard about DOTA 2... I was playing LoL a lot (with my friends lol) to get away from L4D2 ("play it with friends, everything in L4D2 is fixed that way, I swear... lol!").
Lets just hope that no one that works on tf2 helps out with the balancing.
Doesn't that mean hyper carrying will still be present?
there is no such thing as "hyper carrying" it's just carrying as that's what a carry is supposed to do, get fed and carry the team to victory. LoL has it wrong in that even if 1 champs gets fed like 50 kills, they won't be able to carry if they have 4 idiots on the team.
Edited:

Wouldn't that just make games extremely one sided?
As in "gg enemy carry is fed, we can't do anything now"
That's the point. Don't be fucking bad, enemy carry won't get fed, you won't be guaranteed a loss.
that's why denying exists, to stop enemy carries from getting ck and getting gold
More info folks!

Is there any source for that info?
Yes, real mods. Those which have power and control over the client side rather than just the server side. Anything that is limited to just the server side, well, look at Minecraft for example. Most Minecraft multiplayer plugins/mods are limited to the text chat, and you can't do things like add new blocks without modifying the client side. Of course, Source is slightly more flexible, but there are major things that are not modifiable by the server side without being severely gimped by the lack of client side access. That Squirrel is going to be used for anything other than controlling more complex entity interactions and cvars is not in the realms of possibility. So yes you could do a "Defense of the Fortress" mode, but modifying the client side of things is the only way to make it anything more than a sourcemod plugin. This is what I mean by real mods.
I'll look into it, but it's been floating around on a number of websites besides just one with "noob" in the title.
since when did modifications have to have a "certain requirement" for them to be considered real mods?
"don't be fucking bad"
You can probably guarantee that for yourself, but not your 4 teammates.
I'm already tired of retards in League of Legends, I can't imagine dota...
I think dota players will learn to be good, because Valve seems to want to encourage everyone curious to hop into dota, and then providing them with the tutorial and coaching system so they can rapidly understand the basics and strategy (respectfully).
I think the key is that playing dota might have to be like playing L4D2: unless you're extremely good at the game, playing together might have to rest mainly with playing with friends for awhile.
I can see DotA 2 bringing a new wave of noobs, which should mean that people of lower playing ability will probably have some fair competition.
I can also imagine some sort of in-game ranking system to help aid match making.
In my book, a map or a skin change or even a server plugin isn't a proper mod. A "real mod" to me, is a game in its own right.
Yeah. I'm completely and utterly new to Dota, and really don't want to touch the community because of how elitist it can be, so I'm just waiting for Dota 2.
I imagine Dota 2 to be easy and fun to get the basics of, but strategy and tactic taking a lot more time to really master. Games with friends are probably going to be easy and fair; with pubs, a crapshoot. Wouldn't be surprised if a ranking system fixes that though, even if it's more like MNC's than a CoD or Alien Swarm style.
Play ranked.
Interesting, but I hope that list doesn't foreshadow their post-release support being the release moremutationsstrange game modes, every update for 6 months, instead of listening to balance and game mechanic and broken visuals concerns.
