[release]
Official Trailers
[/release]

    [release]
Premise
When an unexpected enemy emerges who threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, the director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team of superheroes to pull the world back from the brink of disaster.
    [/release]

    [release]
Trivia
[*]Jeremy Renner was said to be taking archery lessons for his role as Hawkeye.
[*]Edward Norton was to reprise his role as Bruce Banner but left due to negotiation problems with Marvel.
[*]A rumour was circulating that Eva Longoria was approached to play The Wasp. She denied any kind of partnership.
[*] In October, The Walt Disney Company agreed to pay Paramount at least $115 million for the worldwide distribution rights to The Avengers.
[*]The cast became good friends while filming so if all the actors happened to be filming scenes together in the same place, they would go out together after.
[*]Director Joss Whedon had earlier been considered to direct X-Men in the 1990s. A big fan of the X-Men, he even wrote a script, from which only two lines made it into the film.
[*]This will be the first Marvel film to be distributed by Walt Disney Pictures.
[*]The film was converted to 3D during post-production for the theatrical release.
[*]Mark Ruffalo states it was an honour to take over as Bruce Banner from his friend Edward Norton: "Ed has bequeathed this part to me, I look at it as my generation's Hamlet."
[*]Despite the fact that the Paramount had no involvement in producing the film, neither in marketing or distributing, the Paramount Pictures logo still appears in advertising.

For anyone remotely interested in comics or superhero films; this quite an event. I hope they don't screw it up (though I know nothing about the comics). I am bummed that Norton isn't Hulk, as said it messes up the flow. Not to mention, we don't even know if Ruffalo can do it well.

    I look forward to it.

Also, Jeremy Renner! He better be badass.

I miss Terrence Howard. Don Cheadle just didn't seem as charismatic in Iron Man 2, even though I've seen him be hilarious ion other films. Still, looming forward to seeing Scarlett Johansson in a catsuit again, even if the movie is crap (which it won't be, what with Joss 'Firefly' Whedon at the helm) I'll still be happy.

    One suggestion though; more leather.

Wait is Norton not playing Hulk BECAUSE of his problems with Marvel or is he not getting the role simply because he doesn't want to do it?

I just want them to make the Deadpool movie, there's every chance that this will be better but I'd rather marvel gained more experience from making smaller movies before trying to take on something as big as an Avengers movie.    Oh, and I prefer Deadpool comics to the more serious Avengers stories.

Plus, there's the chance that they might not spend as much time and effort on the Captain America film, and simply be using it as a way of justifying the Avengers movie.

    Well, firstly me

Secondly people who agree with me

Thirdly, Deadpool fans or people who read the leaked script and thought that it sounded like something they'd like to watch

Finally people who don't think that it would work having so many superheroes in the same movie without it having to be ridiculously long (i.e. Watchmen) or just not working very well (like the Fantastic Four movies)

And anyway, if the film does go ahead then chances are Reynolds isn't going to be the one playing Deadpool, if the rumours are true

I'll say this: Green Lantern looks like shit. But that's not because of Ryan Reynolds, though he's not exactly god-tier either.

I didn't know they were going to have Hawkeye, Loki, Rhodey. I hope they don't try and put in some more superheroes. It might get a bit overwhelming at some points.
Also I can't wait until Ironman 3 which is fully going to set up Tony Stark and Rhode's placement in the Avengers team.
Also they're going to get Mark Ruffalo in a motion caption suit so they get the movement and facial features of him when he is in hulk mode.

I didn't think Ed Norton made for the best Banner. I mean, don't get me wrong, Norton is a good actor, I just didn't feel he was the best choice for the role. Ruffalo seems like better casting.

In regards to Deadpool, I have the leaked script and parts of it are definitely completely terrible. It's a step in the right direction, but it needed some fixin'. And if Ryan Reynolds is re-cast as Deadpool, I'm gonna be pissed.

Avengers Director Joss Whedon: Why He Left Television For Earth's Mightiest Heroes

In an excerpt from an interview conducted by CBM's Edward Gross and appearing in SciFi Now magazine, Joss Whedon offers up his reasoning for turning away from television following the cancellation of Dollhouse and his embracing of The Avengers.

Reflects Whedon, “I think I already had left television. The plan had been to dive into the world of self-produced, internet, tiny stuff, which my wife was very excited about – I mean it, she said, ‘I’ve been waiting my entire life for you to do this’ – and then I turned around and said, ‘I’m doing the opposite’ and she said, ‘Great, okay!’ She’s good that way. Obviously there were basically two roads we talked about – one was a huge project that needs a total re-write that you can walk into and make, but there’s no reason to think that that would ever happen. And the other is self-producing stuff, either having something really big or really small, but not trying to truck down the middle road where you have all the interference of a big project, and the feeling of a small project. It’s more about doing it by the seat of your pants, but definitely one or the other. It doesn’t mean I won’t be doing TV forever, it just means it’s time to do something else.”

Previously posted on CBM is this audio interview with Whedon from which this excerpt was culled, and during which he discusses more fully his feelings about The Avengers.

'The Avengers' Will Feature New Iron Man Armour

"Thor" struck thunder upon comic book movie lovers everywhere over the weekend with the release of its first official trailer. In celebration of the Thunder God's impending arrival, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige took the opportunity to reach out to fans to discuss the company's filmmaking future.

Collider has an extensive recap of Feige's conversation with Hero Complex readers, which revealed a wide variety of details including the fact that Tony Stark would upgrade his armor for "The Avengers."

"The best part about making an Iron Man movie is deciding which of his many armors to debut," he said. "[Director Joss Whedon] would kill me if I gave anything away, but I will say that the evolution you saw his armor take in 'Iron Man 2' will continue in 'The Avengers.'"

Regarding new properties, Feige reiterated his enthusiasm for "Doctor Strange," "Black Panther" and "Luke Cage," while adding that "The Avengers," "Iron Man 3," "Runaways" and Edgar Wright's long developing "Ant-Man" adaptation are "gonna take up the next three years of my life."

"Edgar was here a few days ago," he added, suggesting that "Ant-Man" is trucking along just fine. "He's already working on the next draft."

Feige also mentioned that "various plans are in the works" for "The Punisher" now that the property is officially back "in house" at Marvel Studios, and that "a very talented writer is currently working on a draft" of "Iron Fist." We learned in August that "xXx" veteran Rich Wilkes had been tapped to write the "Iron Fist" screenplay.

'The Avengers' To Shoot In 'Land Of Enchantment' New Mexico

Anyone who caught the post-credits "Iron Man 2" ending knew that there were big things in store for the state of New Mexico in the Marvel movie universe, but now the studio's ambitious plans will play a big role in the real-life "Land of Enchantment" long after "Thor" finishes filming there.

In an official press release issued this week, New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson announced plans to host production of Joss Whedon's "Avengers," with shooting scheduled to begin in April 2011.

"In addition to being our biggest production to date, 'The Avengers' will be the most technologically advanced and will provide cutting-edge training opportunities for our crew,” stated Richardson. “I’m announcing this as a Christmas present of sorts to the people of New Mexico. This is a perfect example of the incredible job creation, economic impact and global visibility this industry has brought our state over the past eight years, and of the need to keep it moving forward."

Along with shooting some scenes in New York and Los Angeles, "The Avengers" is expected to centralize most of its production in Albuquerque, with additional filming in various other undisclosed locations.

Last we heard from the "Avengers" wire, actress Gwyneth Paltrow confirmed that her "Iron Man" character, Pepper Potts. would not be involved in Marvel's massive superhero team-up project. However, one element that will be making an appearance in the film is a brand new version of the Iron Man armor, according to Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige.

Beyond that, there's little known about "The Avengers" at this point — though we're sure to learn more as the next Marvel movies, "Thor" and "Captain America," loom ever larger.

Well, they've gotta have Loki, since he was the first villain the Avengers ever faced, and somewhat responsible for the original team.
Hawkeye joined early on, in like the 16th issue. I think Jeremy Renner will be good, but I hear that they're not using the original costume design. I also think Terrence would have been as better War Machine.
