I personally love Artgem's use of color, what I hate though about almost every piece of his, is that with his style, everything pretty much looks like leather... cloth, skin, etc..
I feel that his attention to detail makes up for it. Superboy's hair, general anatomy

Please take a moment to listen and post some feedback! I've told the lead guitarist (who also produces this stuff) that the drums are too quiet.

I guess the disagree rating doesn't show what I meaned, was afraid of that. I personally don't prefer abstract. That's why I rated disagree.

Good thing ratings don't really matter.

I'm a sucker for comic book related artbook.

Young Justice is an upcoming animated series. It seems that after the premiere episode, various depictions of them have been popping up. But this one is reassembles their animated counterparts the most.

I hate these kind of images. It's like the artist was really lazy and didn't finish them. The brush strokes are so obvious it ruins the mood.

I dunno. The brush strokes kinda create the mood. I agree I don't really appreciate it as much in static images but I feel this artstyle works for creating a sense of motion and haste.

That's the point, it's conveying the image in the style of proper painting: convey the point across with colour. It requires the most skill to be successful at it.
It has so much freshness and energy in it.
AS a beginner painter I am fascinated about the sophistication of these.

Not necessarily. Everything is relative. Some people's entire portfolios are comprised entirely of stuff in this style. It would take me a shit load of time to replicate this style, probably as long as it takes me to do realistic rendering from reference.

Since you do 3d you should know that's what environment concept art will nearly always look like. They're not supposed to fully flesh it out. They're supposed to create mood and stylistic direction and the images clearly succeeded at that.

There's a really awesome Japanese photographer that takes pictures of female models and such...
The thing is, he basically asks them "How do you want to die?.." They tell him, and then he takes pictures of them like that... But I cant remember the name, can anybody help me? :)

Apart from that, Salvador Dali is the shit.

    This is the crazy bastard.

    Famous for such pictures as;

I dont really have any favorites because they're all so good in their own way, but I'll pick out a few good ones.

    Then there is H.R. Giger
If you dont know him, you'll recognize his work as he created Alien and a few other things.
