Even in the UK it should have been a 4G94 as the base model, the 4G63 SOHC was only used in Galants up until '93. They made it until 2000, but it was in only used in the Spacewagon in the UK up to '96, IIRC. The Montero got the SOHC 4G63 in Japan up to 2000.
Show me a pic of your ID plate on the firewall. That's the only way I'll believe that car came with a 4G63.
No shame in having a 4G94, it's a better engine than the SOHC 4G63.
Can't get a pic at the moment because I broke my camera a while ago, but here's a couple of printscreens from the workshop manual.

My car is hardly unique either - there are quite a few of these for sale on eBay and Autotrader.
The engine choices offered in Europe for this car were WILDLY different to anything offered in the U.S. or even Japan. There were only three engines sold in the UK and only one of them was anything like modern - the 4G64 with GDI, and that was pretty craptacular. Even the tiptronic automatic boxes were only 4-speeds.
We did get a limited run of 200 UK-spec VR4s sold here, though.
And I guess it is nice having an iron slab of WRC history under my bonnet, albeit to be turned into a coffee table at a later date.
