That's what I'm saying though, I prefer the 8 point inset lugs since they are a locking lug with a special key but also stay looking good. They are what I have run on every set of nice wheels I've had (besides lately on my Slips)

Lemme go take a picture of my lugs, they've got some weird ass setup, I'd assume because of the difficulty to duplicate them unless you have the key? brb.

They also don't get the paint, or in this case chrome chipping off because the key for them fits so tight...And then you just fit a socket over the key, it's a really generic socket, too. Can't remember off the top of my head, but it's a really common one..
Did the upstream o2 sensor yesterday.
old vs new.

But those are fugly as hell. I hate external locking nuts. Internal is the way to go, they don't look all lumpy and weird.
I think I have a pic somewhere of my old lock lugs...
Smoother, just a cleaner look.
I'm not fond of locking lugs at all. The keys aren't hard for thieves to obtain.
'Sides, Justin's wheel there is designed to be used with a full cap that would hide the lugnuts entirely, doesn't matter what they look like.
As for what I've been up to, ready your Gojo and feast your eyes on this. I'm guessing the previous owners never heard of synthetic oil...
Nasty nasty nasty. Got a new valve cover gasket in it, doesn't leak from there anymore. Also found the old oil filter and the drain plug were loose, those were fixed when we did an oil change after the gasket change.
Didn't get anywhere on the brakes though, some asshat stole our floor jack.
I kinda figured they were supposed to have massive center caps to fill that gap, and i wouldn't mind finding a set, but i have absolutely no idea what kind of rims these are...No idea where to even start trying to look for some. Last i checked they don't even make the tires anymore...And i don't feel inclined enough to dismount the tire to see if it's stamped anywhere inside, i kinda doubt it though.
and now that it's that nasty, you can't just clean it or run valvoline or switch to synthetic without all of the oil seals popping :(
They already do leak. The only oil seals that still hold are the front and rear main. That's why I was putting a valve cover gasket in it in the first place.
Amazingly, filthy as it is, that thing runs as smooth as anything Europe or Japan can come up with. I tested it with a seismometer app on my phone, line was smoother when the engine held it than it is when I hold it
Oh, and as a point of comparison, here's what the valves of my '85 looked like after a head gasket failure at 265,000 miles. The '84 pictured above only has 195K on it.
Much cleaner than the '84, water slime excluded. I'm guessing mine's lived most of it's life on synthetic.

I bet if you asked around someone could point out what brand and model your wheels are and where to obtain new center caps.
Replaced my TPS last night and got the car tuned to run nice n' smooth after previously having it tuned to run with a shit TPS, now not only does the car idle and run much better in general but when i get up where the secondaries kick in and get off the throttle all together, popopopopopopop crackle crackle popopopopopop
sounds like a fucking race car with this header, my friend in the passenger seat was laughing at me because i would continually do it just to hear it, and break out in a smile ear to ear every time. So awesome.
The crackling and popping on decel is sign of the TPS being incorrectly calibrated, actually. I've run into that before.
Not that I personally mind it, it sounds hilarious and/or awesome.
That very well could be what it is, as well. But even so it runs better than it did previously, and like you said sounds awesome so i think, at least for now, I'm gonna keep it like this. It does, however, have a really nasty jolt when you go from no throttle to open throttle. (Not necessarily wide open, more like you barely touch the accelerator and it throws you back into the seat)
Yeah, definitely out of spec then. But it should be 100000 times better than before, I know mine was when I changed it.
Yesterday while I was at work, my brother went half way across the state to tear apart another MR2. We managed to get the whole engine, raised engine hatch (for turbos), and leather door panels to replace the fabric ones I have now.
All a good deal for 443$.
Your brother's awesome.
Changed the brake pad.

Did you notice a difference on fuel consumption?
I think my injector seals are leaking since I smell gas when the car is running and it's getting bad mileage.
The injectors are held on by 2 phillips head bolts and two of them are stuck, when I try to get them off with a screwdriver the pattern on the top is stripping. What would be the best way to remove them without an impact wrench?
the injectors are supposed to be bolted in place by the fuel rail?
Engine teardown day, we are on our 4th trip to the auto store to get another socket. Once we do get it though, and have the manifold and head off, we will see if the investment was worth it. All we need is the block itself dammit!
On my car the fuel rail is underneath the injectors and there's like a cap on top of each injector that holds it on to the fuel rail, like this.
I got the Lebaron to turn over and I got the dash buzzing with the help of google for hotwiring. Drained my battery in no time at all so I had to go inside fast, maybe tomorrow I can get it going. I couldn't go to car bashers today because I left my keys in my truck which was in the garage and only me and my dad have keys to he garage so I couldnt get in till he got back.
I want those damn rims for my truck but I can't use them till I find a way to swap 5 on 4.5 hubs on my truck. I'll use those rims for a bit when I do then my dad said he might be able to find me a cheap set of pro stars.
Pulled off the dented bumper and attempted to but the new one on. Bumper brackets are all bent to hell. Managed to get two bolts in and my license plate is held on by zip ties
I hate vehicles
Good luck finding a cheap set of Pro Stars
My dad has a full set of 5x4.5 on new tires just sitting in our office waiting area.
My third engine is fucked.
Fuuuuuuuu
>Toyota motor
>fucked
Something is wrong here, man.
Agreed. The only way to stop a Toyota engine is with an anti-materiel rifle.
Wonder if i can dig up the pics of my grandmothers camry smashed into an apartment building.
Note I said engine, not whole car. You can stop the whole car quite easily, Toyotas don't really bounce when they bop into something.
true enough, then i guess
I somehow doubt that Hilux will be passing MOT anytime soon...seen those two episodes hundreds of times.
Toyota makes a good truck, that's all there is to it. Or at least they did then, I somehow doubt the Tundra and Tacoma could withstand that sort of abuse.
I feel like it would of been done with if they dropped the trailer on it right side up, since i doubt it would of bent around it.
and i agree with you testecull i doubt any post 90's toyota truck could do that lol.
Or if you rebuild the engine wrong/sloppily. The downfall of the engine that came with the chassis was due to a very incorrectly installed boost gauge, dude left an open vacuum to the outside air of the engine, which basically broke the cruise control and could have destroyed the turbo. then the next two blocks both failed due to bad thrust bearings. So once I do get a good block, I am going to do everything I can to make it break proof.
I'm BANNEDUSERS brother. I agree these are some well built engines. Both of the new blocks failed because the PO installed thrust bearings incorrectly. They hold the entire pressure of the clutch when its engaged so when they fail the crank comes into contact w/ the block and acts like a machine lathe on the main caps and block. Sad to see this happen to so many engines. We now have three useless 3S blocks in out garage. I have a lead on a good condition one though. Hopefully checking it out soon.
Moral of the story: If you are going to build a block, don't overlook the little details. One of these blocks seemed to have been rebuilt within 1000 miles. It has absolutely no burn on the pistons and you could still see the fresh hone marks on the cylinder walls. Everything was done right except the thrust bearings. Easy to overlook and get wrong.
hopefully fixed rear brakes dragging
replacing this tire
7,000 miles with tcs off :)
ENGINE AND TRANS IS IN AWWWWWWW YEAHHHHHHHH
took only 15 minutes with my dad too, we were super efficient with this new hoist!!
then it began to snow and it was like 2Celcius outside so I bolted the tranny's crossmember, motor mount, motor damper, driveshaft, a few chassis bar, connected a few connectors and reinstalled the hood.
then took a beer with the old folk and called it a day.
oh yeah and: NEW WHEELS ARE ON THE CAR, will try to take some pictures for you guys since now all I'm waiting is decent weather and a nice outside temps to reinstall all the coolant hoses, oil cooler hoses, intercooler piping, vacuum piping, fluids, yadda yadda and run that bitch :D
post a picture of your car, i don't remember what i looks like.
i love it when you have the tools to do shit instead of improvising and taking ages
been trying to get that old damn motorcycle running perfect.
i took the the bowls of the carbs and cleaned them. took out the both jets in both carbs and cleaned them. but it still has lack of power under 4k rpm but after that it pulls strong till 10k rpm redline.
also new oem plugs got new wire boots on the way.
what is weird i can pull the left plug off at idle and nothng changes. plug it back in and pull the right off it dies. wtf.
Fuck. Sitting in a school parking lot, in 35°F weather, in the rain, replacing a tire. To make matters worse, some asshole at Pontiac decided it was a great idea to put the security lug nuts that require a special attachment, which doesn't even fit on the lug nut very well. Didn't help that the tire probably hasn't been taken off in well over ten years.
