The Super Mario Bros. movie had a fucked up story which basically made it impossible for goombas to exist the way they do in the games. Everyone working for the fucked-up Bowser stand-in HAD to be reptilian for them to make sense. It's quite likely that the writers never played the games.

Huge Spidey fan here.
I honestly don't mind that The Lizard is the antagonist. It shows that they're starting small, so they can have more time to build connections with the characters. What I just hope is that when they kill off Gwen (they've confirmed plans for a sequel), they don't do it like they did in the comic book by snapping her neck.
When I saw the first trailer, I was really turned off. Peter didn't look his nerdy part. Instead he looked like fucking Edward. The special effects also looked really stupid. I also didn't like the suit as much as I did in the other Spider-man movies. But after seeing the second trailer, and giving it some more thought, I'm starting to look forward to this reboot.
Also, if they do get as far as to introduce the black suit, I really really really hope they don't fuck it up like they did with Spider-man 3.

I wasnt a fan of the original trilogy, although 2 was pretty good as it has the most of Raimi's charm. but I just don't like Toby (or snaggletooth). I feel like in the Raimi trilogy, someone like elijah wood would have done a better job as peter

I haven't read much of the early, early Spider-Man comics, so I wanted to ask: Is this movie trying to stick to Spiderman's roots, rather than skipping ahead to Mary Jane like the old movies did? Or is it incorporating the old and the new?

apparently they wanted J.K. Simmons to play JJJ in this, but decided to focus on the origin and character development, then get into the secondary characters and whatnot in the sequel.
I came up with a fantastic way to introduce JJJ in the sequel...

so, apparently, the Lizard's plan is to turn everyone into Lizard people. he does this to Cpt. Stacy's SWAT Team. my idea banks on the idea that Spidey saves Stacy, earning his trust.
the movie would open with a press conference given by Cpt. Stacy.
"For saving my life, the life of my daughter Gwen, and indeed, everyone in our fair city, I would like to take this time to honor Spider-Man, a true American-"
