Avant-Prog may well as be called Psychedelic Prog.. But in a way all prog is.
Damn confusing genre. :argh:
Still not prog though.
"Captain Spectacular has seen through Ziltoid's facade, and now sets out to expose Ziltoid for what he truly is! A Neeeeeerd...
Started to really get into king crimson and for some reason, dangerous curves from power to believe is one of my favourites. I've done Larks Tongue in Aspic, Court of the Crimson King, and the power to believe so far because I wanted to see what it was like. Very impressed with all of them.
Camel are awesome.
Mars Volta is where it's at.
For anyone that didn't see, Dream Theater are going to be posting a documentary to announce the new drummer. People who auditioned were Mike Mangini, Virgil Donati, Marco Minnemann, Thomas Lang, Aquiles Priester, Derek Roddy and Pete Wildoer.
I really really hope it's not Mike Mangini, he's ok, but all he really does is play really fast. I'm hoping for Marco or Virgil.
I've been listening to a fair bit of Van der Graaf Generator recently, any other fans?
Goddamnit I have suddenly started to really really love ELP's Toccata.
For some reason I just can't stop listening to it.
Its just so chaotic and fucked up.
So hyped up for the Rush gig I'm going to 4th of May
I could go to the one on the 16th, but it's 2 days after I see The Wall in London and 1 day before I have a physics exam.
The show is in Helsinki, so thats an hour and a half drive from my house.
This appears to be a great time to listen to some Rush to prepare!
Also, apparently they are playing the whole Moving Pictures album in the show.
The owner of my local music shop told me that if he ever sees of copy of Rush's "Vapor Trails", he'll put it to one side for me. Only thing is, he'll charge £6.50 for it and it's on Amazon for £4.97 but I don't want to rob him of a sale because he's a really nice guy and he runs the shop all by himself.
Although he does have Wired by Jeff Beck on vinyl for £10
Dream Theater just released the first part of their three part documentary about the drummer auditions.
They show Mike Mangini's audition and I really like this guy.
I hope the rest are as good or better than him.
So do i have to be on acid to fully understand the epic greatness of Prog?
Although I don't want to advise people to take drugs, some of the people I've heard comments from have said things about music in ways a sober person wouldn't be able to experience, in order to understand.
There can be abilities to open the mind even further so you are even more involved.
I'm trying to get there, just without the psychedelic drugs.
I've been hearing that it's Mangini for a long time, and after watching that, I can say that i'd be comfortable with him as the drummer, but I also can't wait to see the other auditions
Oh shit I should probably stop this. Don't want this thread turning into a massive drug discussion
Bought the new Between the buried and me album The parallax: hypersleep dialogues.
Has three tracks,Apparently it's a LP, all running about 30 Minutes all together. What i enjoy about this album is how the whole album tells a story from start to finish.
