I'm attempting to get some friends to delve into this sort of music, as most of them like older rock music, and I feel they would enjoy it.
So far, I've got people into Rush, but that's it.

I don't really know any people who love jazz like I do..
I do know a few prog fans though. Some are more into symphonic stuff though as compared to the "free improvisation" stuff that I like :3:

Actually, now that I think about it, my mother is a Pink Floyd fan.

What song initially got you curious about a prog band or the prog genre?
Not even too dense prog, but from there I got heavily into porcupine tree and was preoccupied with anything Steven Wilson related for about a year. Also hit up Anathema during that time and The Pineapple Thief. Then dad decided to get Pink Floyd's Time via the itunes store and I was already curious about it. Now I have 5 Pink Floyd Albums, a few King Crimson albums and am listening to Thick as a Brick.

Surprisingly it was Yes' Fragile album that got me into Progressive Rock.
Particularly this song.

And to answer to quiztime, Dream Theater's Pull Me Under got me into progressive metal.
Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon and King Crimson's In The Court Of The Crimson King got me into progressive rock.
Especially King Crimson's I Talk To The Wind.

Porcupine Tree's Deadwing and In Absentia albums got me into prog rock. I remember my brother came home, he was 16 and I was 12 at the time, with In Absentia and said "This album is amazing, listen to it". So he sat me down and made me listen to it from start to finish. I think my jaw literally dropped a couple of times.
Octavarium by Dream Theater got me into prog metal. The idea of a 24 minute long metal song piqued my interest (odd thing for a 12 year old now that I think about it...)
Blackwater Park by Opeth got me into prog death, I remember listening to it the first time and thinking "It's good but I don't like the growls" then I listened to it again and was all "HOLY SHIT AMAZING"

The Moving Pictures album from Rush. Flawless album, absolutely flawless. I think I was... 11 when I listened to it.

The Still Life album made me realise the greatness of Blackwater Park.

I never really listened to their earlier stuff until this year because I had heard that pre-Blackwater Park was more black. But it's so awesome. It's really folky in parts. April Ethereal off of My Arms Your Hearse and The Moor from Still Life are two of my favourite Opeth tracks now
