You're just assuming things though. Until, you show true proof that's it just for looks and that's it then all your rants you seem to have about the black triangle are pointless. I don't care for the black triangle but you do a lot so you should at least find a few sources that agree with your argument then I feel people would take you more seriously than some guy who isn't educated in the engineering and design of a car that just hates the black triangle. No offense to you or anything just that your argument would seem more valid and serious if you had sources.

The Sonata and Optima are mechanically identical. One has the triangle and one doesn't. There's your proof. I really doubt there even exists an article or "source" proving my point because nobody else cares enough to write one. And if it had anything to do with engineering it wouldn't be on tons of concept cars too. Let's see your proof that it's for engineering? So far I've put forth a better case against than anyone's put for it.

The triangle allows for a longer, smoother slope on the windshield, which would probably improve aerodynamics. It's likely why the triangle is on so many hybrid cars and small, efficient hatchbacks.

Appears on other cars because it allows for a smoother transition from windshield to hood - makes the car look more streamlined.

As little as I notice it, you could accomplish all of that without the dreaded black triangle.

This car has an equally sloped windshield without the need for the triangle because the window line curves down.

That said, I don't even mind it on small cars when it at least looks purposeful. When the triangle is small enough to look like a mistake or a misalignment is when it looks shitty.

    Compare:

There's no engineering purpose to designing it like that on the last two cars. They could reconfigure the trim slightly without affecting anything structural.

I wish we could have these, pontiac's version didn't look as cool.
Thats a Holden Commadore HSV version, the new Monaro/GTO is based off this pretty much a coupe version. The old Monaro was completely different as the Commadore didnt come till the late 70's early 80's. The current Monaro isnt made anymore.

Usually people who run turbo inlets through the headlight and still drive their car on the street has a stock headlight to replace it with when not racing.

    HURR DURR black plastic triangle

But seriously, I don't see the point. It looks like a mistake, there's room for the doorline to be moved forward and terminate at the corner of the window like on a normal car. The thin panel part of the door could be changed without affecting any of the underlying structure at all. Not to mention the front door looks weirdly short the way it is now.

The rest of the car looks great, though a little bit derivative and overdesigned.

    Edited:

Okay I'm convinced hoodoo has some software that alerts him every time I post. 30 minutes after I posted and both posts have a dumb rating from hoodoo.
I'm not licensed in design or anything but, IMO, overdesign only happens when something just starts to look bad or starts to lose its use due to the bad shape it was designed with.
Those cosmetics are just small little things that give the car a bit of a more personal look I guess. To make it stand out from the others or just to make it look edgier.

I feel that if they didn't do things like this, we'd be in another generation of those googly eyed saturns that have extremely rounded edges, which I despise.

    Edited:

While I still think you're being a little picky, I have to admit that your photoshop does look better.

All I think of when I see a car like that, is riding it to school thinking of that "They see me rollin', they hatin'..." while everyone looks at me. As if I was driving one HELL of a car (which I actually would be).

Looks like a car made for a president.

The W8 looked much better than the other Vector cars.

Too bad they had idiotic mechanical designs. The W8 had a three speed automatic transmission. This is in a car with ~600 horsepower.
