One of my new all time albums, I was late on hearing it, and I heard all the hype. It was worth checking it out. It's like an indie-rock version of the Beatles if I may say

The first half of the album blows my mind, I used to play it on my way to school every morning.

I've only heard songs of Pink Floyd, never an entire album. I've always meant to listen to DSotM at the right time but whenever I'm alone and bored I never remember.
Pink Floyd is definitely an album experience.

Meant to be the second best shoegazing album after Loveless, but I actually don't like it. Probably about a 6/10 if I'm being generous.

I'm a bit disappointed by shoegazing to be honest - there seems to be one central idea behind it and not much breakout from the guitar, which is really disappointing. Loveless by My Bloody Valentine was great, a definite hit for me and a 9/10. Really good album, probably the DSOTM of Shoegazing. Souvlaki by Slowdive was a great album too. This one, not so much.

This is one of those albums I've put away for a long time and only now I've actually listened to it and it blew me away. I guess I've had trouble getting into it because Newsom sounds like a retarded Lisa Simpson and the music sounds like some Disney shit but those are thoughts that will only come to mind if you listen to a thirty-second snippit of a song. If you have an open mind and listen to it attentively and all the way through you may find it to be a very complex and emotional album. Newsom's harp playing and sprawling lyrics really make Ys a fresh listen each time leaving me with one of those few albums I want to listen to again as soon as it's done.

There's a rumour that all the members of this band were institutionalized during the making of this album and it does sound plausible.

    Sleep
    Dopesmoker

Now this is some kickass stoner-metal.
The first (and hopefully not the last) stoner-metal album I've heard and its pretty awesome.
The whole album is pretty much just one hour long song.
I really love the riffs and vocals in this.
I'd really love it if somebody could recommend an album similar to this.[/release]

Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind

I don't feel like I can properly rate it after 1 listen, I think it needs another to sink in, but at this point probably a B. This was my first time listening to Swans today, and while there's some great stuff in here, with The Sound definitely being the highlight, The Great Annihilator definitely made a stronger first impression on me, speaking of which...

    Swans - The Great Annihilator

    A-

Felt more coherent and powerful than SftB. She Lives! is amazing and the vocals at the end of Mother/Father give some spectacular spine chills.

This album seems to get plenty of attention here but I just listened to it for the first time.
Great electro-house with really good atmosphere interrupted only by the overly stupid novelty vocals thrown into a few of the songs. Album would be immense without these tracks. Still quite a good album though. (8/10)

I feel I should give everything a chance, I've recently wanted to expand my musical horizons so I tried a whole lot of stuff

really the only stuff I've enjoyed recently are Souvlaki by Slowdive, most of the pink floyd albums and Karnivool's EP

I found Daft Punk to have a couple decent songs but just not my bag, Aphex Twin to be boring (from what I've heard, need to listen to more but I don't really want to, hence a 'chore')

Hawkwind and space rock in general is legit though

Yeah, I think as we get older we start to "get" into the weirdness.

When I first heard The Beatles properly at about 13 or 14 I wasn't really getting it. It's weird to explain because I had listened to a lot more R&B and Hip Hop around those times.

Getting into stuff like Metal and Jazz were pretty difficult and took its time to sink in.

Nowadays I can't really think of much that really disappoints me.

bro there is weirdness and there is the SONG sonic attack, not album specifically
    I mean, what the fuck?

"Use your wheels, it is what they are for"
"Metal, not flesh, should be used wherever possible"
"There will be bleeding from orifices"

    ???

    so you said
that's on my list, I'm going to treat myself and listen to stuff I enjoy for a couple days before I try anything new.

The Killers need to be abused, and I'll do a rate album thing of theirs right now

Now the twelve-fourteen year old me bought this as one of the first albums I'd own. I got it after hearing when you were young on guitar hero, and little did mini-me know I had excellent taste

There is not a song on this album that isn't great. Brandon Flowers is an incredible vocalist, with a tone and range which belong to a god. The guitar is especially tasty on this album, and they keyboard played by flowers is also a great touch to every song.

They're a talented, innovative band and their songs are extremely catchy and fun to listen to, play and chill to. You'll find yourself humming or singing along to any of these songs before you know it during your daily life, today while I waited for my psychology teacher I inadvertently hummed This River Is Wild before I knew what I was doing

A+, in my top ten albums for sure
