You mean it slides onto a rail-like projection. The groove is on the bayonet itself, and the Kar98K doesn't have a cleaning rod slung under the barrel.

This is all iirc of course, correct me if I'm wrong.

But yeah, that would explain the weird pierced slot that the handle has inside it. It extends almost up to the ersatz cross guard.

The front sight will get in the way if I do that. The mount is too low, I would have to get a slightly higher one.
