No hair light.
No hair light.
It's like there are 3 default faces hardwired into girls' brains.
i feel horrible!!
why do you get to shoot all the models, let me in on that
honestly, just ask a girl that you think looks good. She'd be likely to take it as a compliment :buddy:
Won't I look stupid without a studio though
Seriously, just go like "Hey man, I need some practice shooting portraits. Want to help me out?"
that's what I did! have done 3 shoots now, one of them today, with 2 lined up for the next few weeks.
And tell them that they can use the pictures to whatever they would like facebook and such.
honestly, you don't need a studio. I prefer natural backgrounds to sterile backdrops, go to a park or something, sit under a tree and expose for the face, background should wash out a bit and look all fancy
A lot of times people have 'studios' set up just so they can say they have a studio.
While they have their place and legitimate uses, they aren't the be-all end-all to portrait photography. A lot of the big names that I follow shoot almost exclusively on location, actually.
That Girl
I've known this person who ended up getting a entry level DSLR for her birthday. She started taking a lot of photographs, innocently enough. However, she has let other people's comments and praise get to her head. Now, she has a massive ego and thinks that she's a skilled photographer.

For pictures such as the one above, she receives the following comments:
She went so far as to start a "photography" handle for facebook, tumblr, and flickr where she showcases her desaturated, ill-composed, and very bland photographs. 1/3 of the photos are of herself, 1/2 of them are cliche, and most of them have bad composition.

Lol, what?
I'm done bitching.
-snip-
i feel ashamed of my negativity.
:saddowns:
I hate how much praise some people get when they post shots on facebook.
This kid is a pretty good photographer, but it's all going straight to his head, and he's getting the biggest ego ever.
I mean, he's the photographer for the school newspaper. Literally anyone with a camera can get that position.
My name is Jonah too.
that's at f/8 and 18mm? :crossarms:
The light was really weird during the storm, but yeah it could be bullshit.
Unless this kid is a magician and conjured up a lens, he's bullshitting. Maybe it's a typo and he meant 14mm 2.8, but that would require him dropping 2.2 grand on a lens. I highly doubt that's the case.
Edit:
Holy shit I read that as 1.8 not 8. Whatever.
if you ask me it looks zoomed in more than 18, not wider, potentially cropped from a much larger picture. If that isn't the case, it could be the result of severely bad increasing of clarity (if in raw) or sharpness, and/or messing with contrast because it was taken at iso 100 and probably would have been dark at f/8, even for lightning.
I'll ask him if it's a typo
Edited:
Although it was incredibly bright on the night of the storm.
It flashed multiple times within a second even.
Look at my video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ROPYdWlZ9c#t=55
i know this guy, except with music equipment he has thousands of dollars worth of midi controllers, JBL tweeters, turn tables, and things like that but he hasn't made anything yet,on the other hand my other friend only has FL studio and makes really great stuff
He should get another alienbee then
Hey guys, guess what
SC finally got to take pictures using his 7D, expensive wireless flash sync set, two alienbees and 9x12 vinyl backdrop
I really need to talk with the boy :gonk:
It's a masterpiece what are you talking about
SC just bought a professional light meter and doesn't even acknowledge the existence of his pocketwizard setup anymore, instead just using the cable that came with his alienbees to tether himself and rely on the other unit to fire via its built in flash sensing trigger, and refers to every single picture he takes as test photoshoots. He canceled the big shoot he was buying the other gear for, and instead has just been doing garage shoots with one or two people at a time.
I give up
anyone have new tales of interest?
At least he's getting work I guess.
Brian posted this on his facebook.
17-Year-Old Thinks She's Getting Into Photography
The Onion![]()
Is the "shots of grandparent's hands" thing a common joke I don't know?
On Community they had the same exact line, the girl was going to shoot shots of her grandma's hands for her photo project.
Honestly, if I could afford to be "That Guy" I probably would be to a degree.![]()
I guess it's a stereotypical 'first project' thing, I haven't seen it in any of my old classes though
god, i hope i'm not that guy
i do have a tendency to talk about equipment too much, and buy shit i don't actually need
i hope the fact that the needless lenses i buy are manual focus, cheap and ~30 years old at least partly negates that D:
If you have to ask, you aren't. The idea of being 'that guy' wouldn't even cross 'that guy's mind, that's why he's 'that guy'
Edited:
never used so many ' in one post![]()
I don't know if you're good at photography or not, or if you even own any expensive equipment.
Buut on facepunch I would consider you "that guy".
I've never seen you post your work, and you don't even link to your flickr or whatever else you use in your profile.
Yet you have a canon as your avatar.
If avatars were purchases and your work only existed if you posted it here, then you would be that guy.
I know a "that girl". Typical camerawhore, doesn't know how to use her camera at all. She's spoiled too, so even though I'm terrible at photography I can't help but feel jealous
I bought a 600 dollar cannon EOS XS rebel, and hardly ever use it. besides when i see something interesting outside my window and want to take a snap of it. I've never uploaded any of the photos ive taken on facebook. Yet I feel like i am "that guy"
Am I "that guy"? or am i "el de-rodo-dumbass"
not that guy. Little bit of a waste for what you paid for the camera, but I'm sure it gets its use every now and again.
yep.
But i think its more of a case of me not getting out much. So there is nothing to take pictures of. (I don't feel like taking a picture of a lawn chair and raping it with a B&W filter)
I am going to NY in a month, and staying a block away from time square. Probably will take my camera with me just cause of that.
I think I would be more interested in photography if I didn't have like a gazillion other hobbies. Plus, I'm incredibly dull and not artistic in the slightest (well, I like to say I draw decently but I really don't)
No pictures and I don't know about cameras but there's this one really annoying kid (who's kind of alright but this is like a pet peeve) that I know who moved away recently and he just posts on facebook about his camera constantly. He knows that nobody else on his friends list knows what he's on about and he waves it around. If somebody tells him that nobody gives a shit he blocks them.
block him from life with a claw hammer
He sounds like a cocky faggot. Kick him in the balls. (Then give me his camera, as long as it's not a Sony)
what's bad about a sony?
I've used one before, the viewfinder was alot smaller than on my D80
