Logging off in xUbuntu 11.10 64bit isnt working for me. After trying to log off I got BSOD (rly!) - screen is going blue (something like this: "tinyurl com/bsodlinux") and I cant do anything : / Any solution on this?

My PC: Athlon 3000+, 1GB DDR1, Radeon 2600XT.

I wish I had time to install Arch, but I simply know that Arch is brilliant at getting errors that need some time to fix.

Once set up Arch is way better than Ubuntu.

You should give Xubuntu a try. It's a sane version of Ubuntu.

Whats cool about this bundle is all 7 games were newly ported to Linux for this release.
None of them had a Linux version before.

Super meat boy has audio problems for me. The whole game goes quiet in the middle of every level.

Every time I ship a new game and get the flood of "bug" reports, I'm mad all over again that Intel flooded the market with shitty GPUs.

I can understand why making games work on Intel would be miserable, but it does suck that it doesn't work for you.

The download for Super Meat Boy contains a 32-bit binary and a 64-bit. You just run the SuperMeatBoy script and it picks which to run for you.
I haven't checked the other games, so I don't know if they have both binaries as well.

Hi, new to Linux. I'm running the Arch Linux i686 distro on an old computer. I'm trying to figure something out.

I created a new login and it a password, but then I removed the password with passwd -d username. The server is only accessible locally, so security is not an issue. According to what I've read online, removing the user's password should allow the user to login without a password; but when I try to login as this user, it prompts me for a password, I enter nothing, then I get "access denied". Any idea what's going wrong here?

I'm running Arch in a VM, installed SLiM and added it to daemons. When I reach the login screen, it won't accept mine or root account for some reason. Need to edit rc.conf before the login screen.

After using Ubuntu for many years, I decided to give Arch a try. Granted, it was into a VM, but doesn't make much easier. It was a bit of a doozy having to manually install everything, and took me three hours (actually, one hour was downloading the KDE packages, which took forever for some reason). The others were troubleshooting.

But the effort paid off. I learned quite a bit, and I'm actually impressed with how well it runs. Its almost perfectly smooth, which is pretty good considering I'm in a VM and even HD video on Youtube plays perfectly.

Maybe this Christmas break I'll find an old computer, and then install Arch on it for shits and giggles.

What exactly does a USB installer like UNetbootin do to an ISO to make it work with a flash drive? Why wouldn't it just work to burn the ISO contents as is to the flash drive, as is done with a CD?

It has to do with the filesystem on the device and where the bios expects to find the bootloader. CDs use the ISO 9660 filesystem and most linux distros use the isolinux bootloader. What unetbootin does is extract the ISO to the flash drive(usually FAT32) and installs the syslinux bootloader.

You don't need anything to use the AUR, yaourt just makes it easier. Here's some info on installing from the AUR (you'll need it in order to install yaourt).

Linux is so much more pleasant to use in a Desktop configuration. I'm using an old laptop, though it is set up just like a Desktop so I don't have to worry about petty things like wireless drivers.

And the fact that it uses a regular (but still shit) Intel GPU, it's still leagues better than the ATI one which had absolutely terrible drivers, and I actually get 3d performance worth mentioning with the Intel one now. The only thing I can really complain about is that my CPU is definitely being burdened by it, as it's a 1.4GHz Celeron M.

I need to run a jar file every time the OS boots but I can't figure out where to write the command. It's like "java -jar app.jar"

I know, keep wireless chipset in mind, and buy nVidia (not ATI, as the fools over in PC Building recommended me, and I bought for $200). But anything less obvious?

I've been trying to play Minecraft, and it works fine, nice and fast on max settings, fullscreen 1080p. Then I exit fullscreen and my screen is FUCKED

I used to use pidgin as a chat client for facebook, msn, etc. For some reason I can receive messages, but when I send them, they don't go through. I switched to bitlbee so I can do the chat as an irc channel, but I still can't send messages. I looked at the log file for pidgin and apparently I get a 503 error whenever I send something. Anyone know what's up with XMPP?

Got it working. It turns out you need to enable apps in your privacy settings in order to use xmpp for chat.
