GOOD NEWS EVERYONE
After over a year, the old futurama thread is finally dead! We are no longer bound to that dictatorship. Now, hail to our new dictatorship!
I believe by now that Futurama doesn't need an introduction anymore, but believe is for your grandma, so I'll do it anyway.
What does the future look like? Will it be a total utopia? Or a horrible dystopia? Or will life just go on as it is today? I don't know, but probably neither. And thus, this is the world we find Fry, Leela and Bender in.
The Creators
At first let me introduce the unintroducable, the creators of Futurama: Matt Groening and David X. Cohen!
They met at the Simpsons (Cohen was a writter) and teamed up to create a sci-fi cartoon.
But no cartoon is good without a cast. In lack of any better, I give you a short description of the main crew (and Scruffy). Cheer up, fellow readers:
The Cast
Philiph J. Fry, but always just called Fry, is the main character of the show. Lazy, light-minded and a little bit clumsy, he gets stuck in a cryogenic freezing chamber in the year 2000 and wakes up 1000 years later. He gets a job as a space delivery boy (a major improvement for the former pizza delivery boy) at Planet Express, lead by his great (×30) nephew Hubert J. Farnsworth. There he meets the rest of the crew. He is one of the oldest beings in the known universe, happily in a relationship with a mutant and his own grandfather. What a story!
Turanga Leela, called just Leela, is an ass-kicking, steaming-hot, one-eyed Mutant. And she was single. The only man whom she could ever love finally got her.
Grown up in a orphanage, she managed to become a pilot and got a job at Planet Express. She's something like the good soul of the crew, despite that she's always the one who kicks some alien butt. Although being strong on the outside, she's terribly insecure about herself, being a jealous type. So jealous that she beat herself up because she was flirting with Fry. Wait, what?
Bender "Bending" Rodriguez is a cleptomanic, alcohol-addicted, money-hungry robot. Ok, he needs to be alcohol-addicted, because alcohol is his fuel, so no hard feelings there. Despite of all his bad attributes, he's still Fry's best friend. And when it comes hard, even he knows what is right. Well, he was a god once, so he should know. Trivia: He is the oldest know being in the universe. Several time travel accidents lead to that.
The always happy, and always depressive Doctor at Planet Express. Despite his doctorate in art, he is a well known surgeon. Well known for all his accidents, that is. Still, nobody would like to let him go. Expect for Hermes. And Leela. And Bender.
Do you see why he is crying alot?
Scruffy, the janitor of Planet Express. Although he works there since the year 3000 (at least), the rest of the crew hardly ever recognizes him (despite Fry, who has two phone numbers of Scruffy). Still, he is most loyal to his company and even in great danger he remains cool, reading further on his Zero-G Juggs, or whatever magazine he has at hands
Of course there are many more to mention, but this is our main crew of the most beloved characters. There are also Hubert J. Farnsworth(the professor), Hermes Conrad(the bureaucrat ), Amy Wong (the intern and now a Doctor of Applied Physic), and not to forget, Zapp Brannigan.
The Season Clusterfuck
Following the episodes in order is sometimes a little confusing. Sometimes an episode of season 5 is in season 7, or a movie is in season 6. Who in their right mind could see through this? Read on to know the secrets of episode numbering.
Let me first introduce you to two new friends: Production Season and Broadcast Season.
A Production Season is a batch of episodes produced together, meaning they were thought to be shown together.
A Broadcast Season is the way these episodes were actually aired on TV. They don't have to (and usually they really don't) follow the Production Seasons, meaning an episode of Production Season 1 can air in Broadcast Season 2, for example.
And I'm not even talking about the DVD Seasons.
In the year 1999, the world saw for the first time Futurama. It was an instant hit (at least in my eyes). This went on for four more years:
The first four/five seasons (1999-2003)
And already starts the confusion. The first 4 production seasons were spread over 5 broadcast seasons. It's not so bad, since the DVD Seasons follow exactly the production seasons.
The movies (2007-2009)
After Futurama was canceled by idiots, Comedy Central bought the rights to make 4 movies. Each of the movie was later split into 4 episodes, creating broadcast season 6 with 16 episodes.
Rebirth (2010 -20XX)
After being brought back by bigger idiots, Comedy Central ordered another production season (splitting them into 2 broadcast season). This is the point we are right now, waiting for the next broadcast season.
A new production season has already been ordered, giving us at least another 2 years of Futurama.
The Comics

I want to give here also a personal note. As said before, the old thread was over a year old. Thanks for everyone who posted in it and kept it alive (it was nearly every week on the frontpage!). Special thx to Herr Sven, who helped alot and is the biggest Futurama nerd I know (that's a compliment, buddy)

As the last thread, this OP will always be a WIP, so read it from time to time.
